When You Know, That You Know, That You Know Or The Redemption of Benjamin Ashton: Volume One of the Beauclaire Saga

by Marie Warder

April 1, 2005 | Trade Paperback

Under the Southern Cross, an awesome awakening amid the orange blossoms on a South African citrus farm.

From Marie Warder, writer of such bestsellers as Storm Water and With no Remorse... one can always expect the extraordinary. In this regard, When you know that you know that you know! - an enthralling and very different romance, (if it can so be described) - is no exception. Set amid orange groves in the lovely town of Nelspruit, South Africa - among 'Bougainvilleas, Flame trees, Jacarandas and Poinsettias; Scarlet Flamboyant and Bottle Brush, yellow Bird of Paradise, crimson Erythrina, salmon, rose pink and white Oleander, interspersed by a riot of the sky blue, Duranta' - the air is heavy with the perfume of orange blossom in this well-written novel with an unusual plot, unusual complications and an unusual conclusion. It is the story of a successful young American, one of the wealthiest men in the world, who travels to South Africa where, going in search of his brother, he finds God - and, so doing, finds himself! To say more would be to spoil for our readers what should prove to be a captivating read which will hold their attention from start to finish. Every chapter ends with a cliff-hanger!

When you know that you know, that you know!"

    THIS IS A MUST READ!

Until I read this novel, I had no idea that any book could be so utterly aborbing, so enthralling, so delightful - and, at the same time, so inspirational! As I keep telling my friends and colleagues, it is a MUST read, and I look forward to reading the other two in the trilogy.

Can't wait for them to arrive!

Compelling, uplifting and utterly absorbing, this book must certainly have been inspired by God. It stands alone in a yet-to-be-determined class, and must, in time, surely be regarded as a classic. HIGHLY recommended for readers of all denominations - including unbelievers!

I have just finished this book. Now I can hardly wait for the new one. and I just didn’t want it to end. The writer puts a lot of herself into all her books, and this, as well as everything she believes in, is portrayed in some manner in them. That's what makes them so special. I felt as though I knew right where everything was taking place. I could see Johannesburg on the map and just routed out from there.

This is a good book. I have read many books of this period and I find this one well written, excitingly paced, with charming characters. For me it's on a par with The Sound of Music in making belief in God attractive and real. Well done!

About the Author

While to many people around the world Marie Warder is known chiefly as the Founder and President Emerita of both the Canadian and South African Hemochromatosis Societies, and the Founder and former President of the International Association of Haemochromatosis Societies, there are as many to whom her name is familiar as the author of such bestsellers as the non-fiction book, The Bronze Killer, and novels like Storm Water and With no Remorse… A writer from whom one can always expect the unexpected. Not surprisingly, many of her stories - of which'Tarnished Idols' is a good example - take place in and around newspaper offices for, according to "The Journalist", she became, at the age of seventeen, the youngest chief reporter in the world, having sold her first newspaper article at the age of 11 and her first short story at 17. During her career as a journalist she was privileged to interview some the world's most famous people.

There are also very few of Marie Warder's stories in which her tall, well built and charming husband - and frequently, his brother - are not to be detected somewhere among the leading characters. Not surprisingly, music is usually another feature. She played the piano in Tom's very popular dance band, and he was wholeheartedly supportive of her writing. Unfortunately, when he suddenly became ill, as she tells in the book, "The Bronze Killer", they had come to the end of the good times. After nearly eight years of deteriorating health he was finally diagnosed with iron overload, and since then, except for a series of travel articles for a magazine, she has devoted her literary efforts entirely to the writing of more than 200 articles on the subject of hemochromatosis, and to the production of patient literature for individuals, hospitals and other medical facilities. Her newsletters and brochures have gone out to more than 16 countries.

Now, believing that she has done all in her power to promote awareness of the world's most common genetic disorder, she is back to doing what she likes best …writing stories. Published in 2004, Storm Water and With no remorse… were the first in the new Dromedaris Series of 'Stories from South Africa'. These novels are followed by When you know that you know that you know! or: The redemption of Benjamin Ashton, and Tarnished Idols. Both for release in 2005.

From the Author

I can claim no credit for this book. It wrote itself and carried me along with it! However, the memory of the view from the balcony of a Nelspruit hotel at which I went with my husband’s band, many years ago, to play for a dance, remained so powerfully with me that I knew I would have to write about it some day. Except that there are no gorgeously plumed peacocks parading among the green and gold of the citrus trees and the magnificence of the Erythrinas, at sunset, that is the view I have now described from ‘Benjamin Ashton’s stoep’.

Marie Warder has done it again!
This spellbinding romantic novel fraught with misplaced understandings, unrequited love, and great sacrifice, is set in the first half of the turbulent seventies in South Africa. She quickly draws you into a story so compelling you won't want to put down. Mrs. Warder writes of the power of God's wonderful healing grace at work in the lives of the characters as they open up in faith to the truth of His word. Her obvious love for South Africa, and her wonderfully detailed and descriptive language, make you want to go there and see it all for yourself. The characters are so endearing, I hope there is a sequel. Enjoy! - Susan Rivers

Marie Warder's best fiction book to date.
It is hard to put down and one can't help wondering how on earth she is going to sort out all the complications in the story. Marie Warder is a very talented lady and is an excellent spinner of tales. Quite apart from the fascinating characters and story, I loved learning about South Africa, in all its beauty, the difficult times they have had, and are still going through. The writer is meticulous in checking out all the details, whether it be historically, geographically, theologically, medically or even botanically. Many of the characters in the book are based on people she knows, or events she has been involved in.
I hope she does a sequel to this book. I have enjoyed it so much. -Mary M. Otto
