Whispered Lies

by SHERRILYN KENYON

Simon & Schuster | March 29, 2011 | Trade Paperback

Kenyon and Dianna Love's newest romantic suspense novel, a gutsy female agent from the BAD (Bureau of American Defense) Agency must come out of hiding to bring down a secret organization-that has become America's number one threat.

Sherrilyn Kenyon's sensual and suspenseful novels featuring the agents from the sexy Bureau of American Defense offer plenty of satisfaction for readers. In Whispered Lies, the agency intercepts an anonymous tip, and agent Carlos Delgado leads his team through a daring midnight mission to flush out the informant sought by every agency on the planet.

Victoria Tynte Saxe has spent the last ten years hiding-from the criminals she snitches on, a threatening ex-husband, and her aristocratic family-using her electronic genius to share information on criminal activity with international intelligence agencies. But she made one critical mistake that exposed her identity and location to the very people she's hiding from. When teenagers become pawns in a dangerous game that threatens to throw the United States into financial and political chaos, Carlos makes the bold decision to team up with Victoria. Then it's a race against time to save the teens and protect America...before anyone dies from whispered lies.

Gabrielle Saxe has hidden from a killer for the past decade, sending anonymous tips on international criminals to intelligence agencies around the world. When a postcard arrivers from a friend who is supposed to be dead, she takes a risk that catapults her into the midst of dangerous operatives on a treacherous mission--and into the arms of Bureau of American Defense operative Carlo Delgado. Duty-bound to surrender her to Interpol as an international felon, Carlos is the last person Gabrielle should trust and the only one standing between her and death. But little does she know, she holds the key to his survival as well...

What made Whispered Lies work was the characters, Gabrielle and Carlos were both very hurt from something in their past but neither one has given up. Instead, they are both survivors, fighting everyday to right the wrongs of their past. There was tremendous plotting right out of today's headlines, action packed, and the conflict each character faced was fascinating. Any fans of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series should give her B.A.D series a try you will not be disappointed!

As a fan of SK and her paranormal series, I thought this would be a fast-paced novel - it isn't. I have read her other BAD novels and was rather hoping that the heroine would be a kick-ass gal who could give Rae a run for her money. So what if Rae is a trained agent and Gabrielle is a civilian. The cat fight would have been interesting for the male BAD agents to witness. The ending was kind of sappy - Gabrielle learns the truth about Carlos and falls putty into his arms. I would've preferred a more "hard to get" approach. Gabrielle should have learned what the tattoo looked like; recognized it on Carlos and given him hell - before we have the sappy ending. But overall, it wasn't a bad read.
