Wicked Lovely

by Melissa Marr

HARPERCOLLINS PUBLISHERS | April 22, 2008 | Trade Paperback

Rule #3: Don''t stare at invisible faeries.

Aislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in mortal world. Aislinn fears their cruelty-especially if they learn of her Sight-and wishes she were as blind to their presence as other teens.

Rule #2: Don''t speak to invisible faeries.

Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.

Rule #1: Don''t ever attract their attention.

But it''s too late. Keenan is the Summer King who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. He is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost-regardless of her plans or desires.

Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; her life; everything.

Faerie intrigue, mortal love, and the clash of ancient rules and modern expectations swirl together in Melissa Marr''s stunning 21st century faery tale.

    Lovely enough.

I don't feel like going on and on about this book so I'll keep it simple.

    1) This is my first "faerie" book. The closest that I've come to reading something from the fey world was the book "Switched", which was a "troll" book. I didn't really want to read this book because I wasn't interested in the whole faerie thing, but somehow it wasn't as lame as I thought it would be.

    2) There was sort of a love triangle going on there for a second. I wasn't sure where the story was going...I didn't know if Ash would choose Keenan (Summer King) or her best friend Seth. I didn't care who she "chose" because Seth was such a cutie and Keenan (my usual first choice) was a powerful king. Normally when there's a choice between the immortal guy and the mortal guy I always prefer the immortal guy. This time I didn't care who came out as the "winner" because I liked them both equally....which never happens.

3)Overall, this book was better than I thought, and I'll probably be continuing with the series. It only gets 3 stars because it wasn't that kicka** or thrilling. I like the lead girls to have more of a backbone, stubborn, etc. Ash definitely wasn't a pushover, but she isn't my ideal powerful lead.

    Random:
-awesome cover. Finally a book without the full face of characters on it. I love the darkness mixed with the colour.

I found the first one was the best one to the series. If you want a really good Fey series to read let me suggest to you the Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa. :) It's really well written, has a kickass lead female role and an unbelievably great plot.

I was really iffy about buying this book, but in the end I found that I was glad I did. :) I found that I enjoyed this book a lot more than I expected myself to, even if I only gave it three leaves. After reading review after review, I thought Wicked Lovely would be one of those book I would have to force myself to read, but to my surprise I found myself sailing through the pages with obvious enjoyment. However, I found that Seth believed Aislinn a little too quickly, even if he had known her for seven months, I found it weird that he didn't question Ash about the fey at all. However, I loved that he didn't desert her and stuck by her side through everything :)

I only gave this book three leaves because although I liked it, nothing about it made me scream out, OH MY GOSH THIS IS AMAZING! But I don't discourage it! I liked it, which is what three leaves are. Overall, it was a good book with an interesting plot and a devious love triangle, or maybe more acurratly discribe as a parralellagram? I'm not too sure :P But yeah, a good book, I liked it. :)

Awesome 1st book to the series

I am confessing my love right now. SETH, I LOVE YOU!!! Yep, I said it I love Seth...anyone else?

I really enjoyed this novel. I liked the relationship with Aislinn and her friends, family and of course Seth. I liked feeling the tension of love between Keenan and Donia. I liked reading about Keenan and his quest to woo Aislinn. Aislinn consistently turning him down made me laugh my ass off.

Melissa knows how to keep her reading attention. I really didn't want to put this book down but I had to because I stayed up soo late reading it that I was ready to pass out with the book on me and I didn't want my book to get wrecked cause I love it too much. There was just enough tension between the characters to keep you guessing who was going to get their way and who was going to get screwed. There is also enough action to keep you turning the pages.

I can't wait to read the next books in the series.

    Romance with a twist

    Sharpquilter

This is not your average teenage romance, its much, much better.
Aislinn is not your typical teenager. She is being followed by faeries and she doesn't like it. She wants to be a normal girl, but the faery Keenan has other ideas. He needs Aislinn to become a faery herself.
Aislinn is a strong character. She doesn't want to be a faery and do as she is being told. She decides what she wants and then finds a way to achieve it. In the end its a win-win for everyone involved with her.
