by Andrew Pyper

Harpercollins Canada, Limited | November 24, 2005 | Trade Paperback

Ross River is a town clinging to the outside world at the end ofthe Yukon’s loneliest road. It is also the hiding place of Miles McEwan, thetown’s hard-drinking, fist-fighting fire chief. But the slow burn of Miles’self-imposed exile is about to explode. As a hunting party tracking one of thelast giant grizzlies confronts a different, more chilling enemy and an infernoignited by human hands races toward the town, Miles embarks on a desperaterescue mission—not only for the life of his daughter but for his ownsalvation.

Andrew Pyper returns to the landscape of the last truewilderness in this blockbuster work of storytelling, a menacing psychologicalthriller that also explores what binds us to conscience, family and the naturalworld.

This book is terrific!! One of those books you can't stop reading yet don't want to end!! The Vancouver Sun put it best with "A brilliant melding of mystery, suspense, survival." as quoted on the front of the book. After reading this book, I purchased his other 3 - Lost Girls, The Trade Mission (aka Dark Descent), and Kiss Me (collection of short stories). I enjoyed them all (but I like The Wildfire Season the most). I love it when I pick up a book with no expectations and am blown away! Thank you Andrew Pyper!! When's the next one? Buy this book!
