One of my favorite expressions is: " Just because you can, doesn't mean you should". So if someone suggested to you that you just rant out loud into a tape recorder and then transcribe the contents to the written page (probably for big money) no doubt you might do it too.
I havent read her previous works so i have nothing to compare it to.
I don't really know how to explain this book. At first, a funny tale explaining her strange family, upbringing and convoluted family-tree. Then it becomes a comical look (?!) at the impact mental illness had on her life. Then around about the half-way point in the book it starts to spin even farther out of focus and become a catch-all for anything that appears to have popped into her head at the time.
She is a funny person, no doubt about that. And she uses her humour to deflect - or in most cases to cope with - her unusually sensitive perspective of her life.
At about 150 pages long this book is easy to read in an afternoon but I didn't feel anything after completion; not redemption, not comic relief, not entertained. Maybe only sympathy?

Carrie Fishers work is constantly surprising. Her humor, her wit, her sarcasium, and her honestly is a joy to the world of print. I'm never sorry when I read one of her books. This was no exception! It was funny and an easy read. Do try!

Raw and seemingly honest account of being a Hollywood kid. Some laugh out loud moments.

I was very disappointed in this book. I love Carrie Fisher, thoroughly enjoyed 'Postcards From The Edge' and was looking forward to reading this book over the holidays.
It is short; a mere 160 odd pages including pictures, but it is annoyingly repetitive, I don't blame Ms Fisher for this, but her editor should be fired! It is one thing to over use so, but, well and now, but actual phrases and events should not be repeated in a book this short.
UPDATE: I just read exerpts from two of her other books "Delusions of Grandma" and "The Best Awful There Is"
In the exerpts alone I found passages identical to ones in "Wishful Drinking" this is beyond disappointing, Had I bought the aforementioned 2 books, I would feel very riped-off. If Ms Fisher was schizophrenic instead of bipolar, I'd suggest she sue herself for plagiarism
