This is the first Anya Bast I have read and I wasn't really sure what to expect. Mira and Jack are magical opposites so when Jack is assigned to protect her, for the Coven, and keep her safe from the Duskoff Cabal sparks fly. This book introduces to a world within our own where good witches work for the Coven and the evil warlocks work for Duskoff International. Basically Duskoff, which is run by William Crane, gains power by kidnapping innocent witches. They need one of each of the four elements, air, water, fire and earth, to sacrifice to the demons that keep them in wealth and power. Mira, being a rare and powerful air witch, is a much sought after prize despite the fact that she doesn't know she is a witch. Jack is the one to unleash not only her power but also her passion. I enjoyed the story but it didn't suck me in the way some stories do. I am interested enough to read Witch Blood, the follow up book, to see where Bast takes this. Sometimes it takes the second book for a series to really hit its stride.

Summary - Mira is unaware that she is a witch until she meets Jack and sparks fly (He's a fire witch). Mira has to depend on him to teach her about witchcraft and protect her from evil warlocks all the while fighting an attraction that almost consumes them. What I liked - I found this book to be a well written, very steamy witch tale. What I didn't like - The only thing I found hard to buy was that when they were fighting their attraction they were sleeping in the same bed, I just can't see that happening, or not happening I guess. 54/1000

This is the first book I've read by Anya Bast, and I enjoyed it. It started strong and ended strong with some interesting aspects throughout the book. The characters are well-written, likeable (except for the bad guys of course!) and multi-faceted and just flawed enough to keep you wondering what they might do next. The sex scenes that Bast writes are extremely explicit, lengthy and detailed. While sex in a story like this is an expected and required feature, and I enjoy them as much as the next person, at some points during the book I almost felt like the story was written to accommodate and fit with the sex scenes instead of the sex complementing the plot, which for me is how it should work. But that's a small complaint really. I enjoyed the story and ending was more than satisfying, with sufficient threads left hanging for the next book in the series, but with a proper, thorough resolution for Mira's story. It's one of my pet peeves when an author leaves you hanging by your fingernails on the edge of a cliff with the story, when you know you'll have to wait for the next book, sometimes months! I always give extra credit to authors who give you an actual ending to their books! I also like the "element magic" aspect of the book, and am hoping that Bast goes more into this, and the "world" she sees her characters inhabiting in future books. Those of us who like the paranormal world usually want to understand the world(s) at least as much as we want to fall in love with the characters who live in them. All in all, I enjoyed Witch Fire. It's a fast easy, entertaining read, and I am looking forward to Witch Blood the next installment of this series.

Witch Fire is a quick and light, entertaining read that definitely packs some heat. Mira Hoskins is stuck in a rut. Recently divorced from her cheating ex-husband, working as a waitress to try and save enough money to finish university and living in a 'dump' of a basement apartment, the last thing she expects to happen is to be rescued and all but kidnapped by a hot, sexy man and left tied to his bed. But that's not even the most unbelievable reality she has to face. Turns out she is also a powerful, if untrained, witch with the rare ability to control air. Wanted by the Duskoff, a cabal of evil warlocks, it is up to Jack McAlister, a powerful fire witch, and the Coven, the governing authority of witches, to keep her safe. Caught up in the natural attraction between fire and air, Mira and Jack are drawn to each other in a way neither has been before, but Jack harbours a dark secret that could tear them apart. The basis of this series is an interesting concept. In this reality, witches are both male and female. Warlocks, like the members of the Duskoff, are witches who have gone rogue, offering up the lives of helpless witches as sacrifices in order to bargain with demons for more power. My only complaint is the very sparse world-building. Bast provides just enough background information to tell the story without really delving further than necessary. Although the story itself is very simple and predictable, it provides a steamy read as Jack and Mira practically burn up the sheets. I will definitely be checking out the sequel, Witch Blood, to see where this series goes.

I am now enthralled with Anya Bast and her Elemental Witches series. Her characters are exciting and crazy - the perfect combination! The next pruchase I make at Coles will be the next book in this series. I can't wait to read more about these great witches!

The title says it all. I liked this book. It was cute, sexy with the perfect touch of romance and supernatural twists to make it a quick read. There's no denying that Anya Bast can write a steamy sex scene with the best of them, but her writing in this reflects that she is indeed an erotica novelist. Even so, I thoroughly enjoyed this and couldn't put it down from the first moment that I picked it up. Every now and then a steamy book with hearty romance is really all the soul needs...well that and maybe some chocolate.

A liitle bit of witches and warlocks and little of steamy sex - what's not to like! This is my first read with new author Anya and she's not bad; I'll be interested in reading her second book in this elemental witch series. Sherrilyn Kenyon she's not but she holds her own.
