About the Author

William Zinsser is a writer, editor and teacher. He began his career with the New York Herald Tribune and has been a longtime contributor to leading magazines. His 17 books include Writing to Learn; Mitchell & Ruff; Spring Training; American Places; Easy to Remember: The Great American Songwriters and Their Songs; and most recently Writing About Your Life. During the 1970s he taught writing at Yale, where he was master of Branford College. He now teaches at the New School, in New York, his hometown, and at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

    Essential to good nonfiction writing 5

    A teacher recommended this book to me last semester. My initial reaction was "what does he take me for, I can write very well thank you very much". But after reading it, I realized how bad my writing was - is. The first half of the book is a general outlook on writing (style, introduction, do's and don't's, etc.) Then it continues with a more specific approach (art review, travel article, sports article, etc.) which you can read or skip depending on what you're looking for.     Most of the books I have read on writing promise much but deliver little. "On Writing Well" is a notable exception. Mr.Zinsser gives practical advice about all aspects of the writing profession. Worth buying, reading and using as a future reference source.
