Harry N. Abrams | August 6, 2013 | Board Book

Alphablock is rated 5 out of 5 by 6.
With thick pages cut into the shape of each letter, children and parents will enjoy this peek-through guessing game around the letterform itself. Sprinkles, hot fudge, and cherries hint at I’s ice cream sundae, while aquarium accessories hint at F’s fish. As readers interact with the pages, they will familiarize themselves not only with the 26 letters and associated words, but also with each letter’s physicality—angles, holes, and curves, both front and back. With Peskimo’s animated, stylish visuals, this fresh ABC book encourages readers to manipulate the alphabet in a whole new way. Note: illustrations have a retro feel, with imperfect variations in color and texture.

And also available: COUNTABLOCK, with pages cut into the shape of numerals from 1 to 100!

What can I say about a book that my twin grandkids – at 18 months – loved so much they actually took it to bed and fell asleep with it for weeks. It’s genius, and completely magnetic to little hands and eyes. The letters are bold and bright – perfect for tiny fingers to explore, and they’ll love calling out the letters and the objects. Watching the joy and pride on their faces as they learn and grow is one of the best things about being a parent – or grandparent. You’ve simply got to get this book into a child’s hands, and watch the magic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must-purchase for any young child I bought this book for my daughter when she was 4 months. She lit up with a big smile the first time I read it to her and it's become one of her favourites. The cut-out letters, illustrations and great colours will catch the attention of your little one. Just buy it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FANTASTIC! This book has been popping up on blogs more and more lately, so I decided to check it out. The concept of this book, along with Countablock, is very creative. The book is chunky, brightly coloured and very fun to explore. My one comment I have, which can be seen as both good or bad depending on your point of view, is that some of the words given for the letters aren't what I would expect to see in a book for children. For example, yacht is given as an example of "y". More simple words, like yo yo might have been a better option. Children may be confused when they see the image of a boat, not understanding that a yacht is a particular type of boat. On the other hand, such words expose children to words they would not be exposed to in other alphabet books. It all depends on your point of view. Overall, it is a fantastic book and a must have for every child's book collection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Alphabet Book I just came across this book at the doctor's office and my almost 2 year old was totally engrossed by it. He was so sad to leave it behind, as soon as we came home I ordered it for him. Definitely the nicest ABC book I've ever seen. It's simple and easy and colourful.
