About the Book

The first volume of Stanislavski's enduring trilogy on the art of acting defines the "System," a means of mastering the craft of acting and of stimulating the actor's individual creativeness and imagination.

From the Publisher

Stanislavski''s simple exercises fire the imagination, and help readers not only discover their own conception of reality but how to reproduce it as well.

About the Author

Constantin Stanislavski (1863-1938), arguably the most influential director in the history of the theater, was the founder of the renowned Moscow Art Theater. A pioneer of psychological realism and improvisation on the stage, he devoted his life to developing the performance techniques now emulated throughout the world.

From Our Editors

Most theorists moil in obscurity, touching only the specialists who come after them and rarely making a name for themselves in the general public. Stanislavski is not one of those theorists. The rest of the world thanks him nightly for his acting philosophy as they stream into theatres where actors on stages and screens give a superb performance thanks to his method. An Actor Prepares, the first step in his intensive program, explains how to encourage your creative process by relaxing and concentrating. Using his well-known rehearsal techniques like the 'magic if' and 'emotion memory' you'll fully get into a head space where you can perform well.

Editorial Reviews
