Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lots going on for an interesting Murder Mystery This was an interesting book. It had several different elements all skillfully woven into the story. Set during the (HUAC) House Unamerican Activities Committee period when McCarthy and his bunch of communist-hunters were running amok in Hollywood, we meet a number of Hollywood people. There are producers, actors, and writers, some of whom are communists and others who aren't. Nevertheless, pretty much all the characters are impacted in varying degrees by the communist hunting. We get a good snapshot of how people respond when unfairly, and (depending who you agree with) illegally attacked - some show grace under pressure and others collapse under the scrutiny. We also are offered a look at the courage shown by people who wouldn't be affected by this, but choose to stand behind and support their friends in spite of pressure to "stay out of it". We also get to peek behind the curtain how how movies and movie stars, got made in Hollywood's "golden age" and if you are a movie buff, particlarly an "old" movie buff, you will enjoy that aspect as well. Oh, yes, and there's a murder in there too! I recommend this as an intriguing juxtoposition of several aspects that would be interesting on their own, but combined they offer a really good read!” Add a tag
