An alluring laird...

He was known throughout the kingdom as Hawk, legendary predator of the battlefield and the boudoir. No woman could refuse his touch, but no woman ever stirred his heart—until a vengeful fairy tumbled Adrienne de Simone out of modern-day Seattle and into medieval Scotland. Captive in a century not her own, entirely too bold, too outspoken, she was an irresistible challenge to the sixteenth-century rogue. A prisoner in time...

She had a perfect "no" on her perfect lips for the notorious laird, but Hawk swore she would whisper his name with desire, begging for the passion he longed to ignite within her. Not even the barriers of time and space would keep him from winning her love. Despite her uncertainty about following the promptings of her own passionate heart, Adrienne''s reservations were no match for Hawk''s determination to keep her by his side. . . .

Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A really hot read! View more of my review and others at my blog: www.mynotsovacantshelf.blogspot.com Oh Highlanders. What can really be said about them? Other than they are awesome. Sometimes I truly wish I could live in the time of highlanders. *Sigh. This book reminded me a lot of the Daughter of Glen series by Melissa Mayhue expect the Fae were not so much in this series. Oh no, the Fae are being mischevious and trying to punish a man who they believe bedded their queen. Hawk is a living legend and no woman has ever denied him, so the Fae find the one woman who will and it drives him crazy. It drove me crazy too because I really enjoyed her putting him down, however ever after a certain amount of time I was hoping that she would just start saying yes. But, there is a lot of background info for Adrienne and we really do understand why she is the way she is, and why she hates beautiful men. The plot has my toes curling and my mind filled with angst as I read through it. There was even a chapter that was pretty dark and I was worried the book was taking a turn I had no expected, but luckily that was not the case and I got more than my fill of breath-taking romance. Good: Hawk--Cocky, but a nice guy. Adrienne--Determined to not make the same mistakes she did before. Grimm--There is more of him to come. He’s loyal to his friends, but I know there is more in his past Bad: There was a part that was a little dark, and there were also moments that were a little slow. Overall (Writing style, story line, and general): Overall the writing was pretty easy to follow. The story was interesting, and the characters were definitely different from other highlander novels that I’ve read. My toes curled, and my heart raced. This is a series I am more than likely to come back to.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Good Start to a Series This is the first of the Highlander Series and I picked it up after finished KKM’s Fever Series. It took me a while to fall in love with the Fever series and felt I should give her other series a chance. I really enjoyed it. I loved the connection between Hawk and Adrienne, the tension was wonderful. Hawk’s mother and best friend add a lot to the story, makes me want to go out stare at the stars. This series seems like it’s going to be the perfect summer read, fun, light and easy. On to book two.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bring On The Highlanders This is the first book in the Highlanders series and I really enjoyed it and was a bit surprised on what turn everything took, I thought this book would be more supernatural but there wasn't a whole lot in there but that was fine because the story was still great. I really liked the plot of this book and the characters were great, Adrianne ( spelled wrong ) was a great love interest for Hawk and I liked all the tension and romance. My one complaint about this book was I didn't like the way they kept saying The Hawk it just sounded vain or something, I don't know lol. Overall awesome book I look forward to the next. :0)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great start to a series that gets even better This is KMM's first book in her Highlander series. Although all the stories are mostly stand alone, I would highly recommend reading them in order. This is the story of Hawk and Adrienne, and is in my opinion the weakest in the series but still absolutely fun to read. If you enjoy this first one, you should definitely check out the rest as it gets even better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Highlanders do it right Beyond the Highland Mist is the first book in Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander Series. Let me tell ya, this is the way you want to be thrown head first into the erotically charged world of the highlanders and the mischievous fey folk. This first Highlander book revolves around Hawk and Adrienne. Hawk is well renowned sex god and all around perfect man of brains, brawn and heart. Adrienne is as stubborn as she is beautiful. There are many hurdles for this couple to jump. The biggest being that they don’t even live in the same time. Adrienne lives in the 20th century and is sent back in time to the 1500’s by a jealous being in the Fey world who wants the previously scorned Adrienne to make Hawk‘s life a living hell. We’d all assume a beefcake like the Hawk would be happy with women grovelling at his feet, begging him for his enormous… talent for pleasure and stamina, but that would be a big fat no. He is left unsatisfied after every conquest and wants nothing more than to find a woman to love, who challenges him, fights him off and makes him melt inside out. In pops Adrienne, the opposite of all women of Hawk’s time. Her stubbornness to keep from falling for this warrior combined with her scorned outlook on beautiful men really tests the Hawk’s skilled and calculated ways that he‘s fallen back on time and time again. Adrienne makes him come completely undone. She is forced into marriage with this man by powers that no one can come up against and they’re both unleashed into a cruel game where all’s fair in love and war. The Hawk and Adrienne find themselves on a hot and bothered path filled with manipulation, passion, pain, mystical revelations and, of course, love. I’ve definitely fallen for the Highlander world. Really, who wouldn’t want to dabble in this world and under those kilts at any opportunity? I really enjoyed Hawk and Adrienne as leads and the angst was just right mixed with wit and some lightness to crack you up in all the right places. The throw down’s were fair, but could have been a little hotter for my taste, especially after all the angst and teasing. I have a feeling this book is just a warm up for the rest of the series. If Hawk is any indication for the rest of the warriors to come, then there will be plenty of hot and bothered sleepless nights daydreaming about the animalistic passion and possessiveness that the men unload on their women and vice versa. It’s safe to say this will turn into one of my favorite romance series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Surprisingly Good! I will admit that I never thought that I would read another book that was quite like The Outlander Series (D. Galbaldon) but these are surprisingly good. I was introduced by a friend and am now on the second in two days. Read great read. Can't wait for the next one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Book! Maybe I am more partial to these stories because I love anything to do with the Sidhe, but these books are awesome and hard to put down-they leave you with the need to pick up the next book immediately! Future meets past is awesome, and this one kept me on the edge of my seat until I knew for sure the happy ending was coming cause there were parts I had my doubts...these are some of the books I try and recommend to non-romance readers to try and suck them into this world of books!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Magic.... This book is one of the best novels that I have read. This novel touches on so many human emotions that come along with falling in love that is makes it so easy to fall for these characters and to read this book over and over again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Irrisistable This was one of the best books I've ever read! The story had such depth that you couldn't put it down. Anyone who loves historical romances would love this. People are definently right about one thing, they sure don't make them like they used to!

Read from the Book

Hawk placed a finger beneath Adrienne''s chin and tilted her head back, forcing her to meet his flinty gaze. "I will tear from you anything Adam gives you.  Remember that.  If I find his body draped over yours, he will suffer the same fate." His eyes drifted meaningfully over a scrap of crimson silk stuck on the bark of tree, flapping like a dead thing in the breeze. "Why?" "Because I want you." "You don''t even know me!" His mouth curved in a beautiful smile.  "Oh, sweet lass, I know everything about you.  I know you''re a complex woman, full of dualities; you''re innocent, yet tough; intelligent"--He cocked a teasing brow--"but lacking a smidge of common sense." "I am not!" Adrienne scowled her protest. He laughed huskily.  "You have a wonderful sense of humor and you laugh often, but sometimes you''re melancholy." He crowded her with his body and gazed down at her with heavy, hooded eyes.  Adrienne tossed her head, trying vainly to dislodge his finger from beneath her chin and escape his penetrating gaze. He cupped her face firmly with both hands.  "You''re a willful woman, and I''d like to be the focus of such a willful woman''s desire.  I''d like to have you yield your trust and loyalty to me as steadfastly as you withhold it.  I''m a mature man, Adrienne.  I will be patient while I woo yo
