Rated 5 out of 5 by from Scholarly, Entertaining, Lively and Exciting! What an achievement this is! Who said our history was boring? Will Ferguson's book is well researched and well referenced ( and could quite easily be used in a history undergraduate course). But it is also highly entertaining and readable. Our history as told faithfully and beautifully in this book could be the stuff of several blockbuster films! It is only the uncommon achievement of an uncommon story teller that combines historical accuracy, readability and a lively, vigorous and lucid style. Will Ferguson is all that and more! He brings a gentle humor, a genuine love for Canada into this book - and that quintissential Canadian character of being able to laugh at oneself.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, brief overview Light treatment covering prehistory, through Vikings, early Europeans, and up to Belinda Stronach. Helps with understanding of English vs French conflict and Canada-US relations. Focus on Prime Ministers and their legacies. Easy, quick read. Great place from which to pursue further reading. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not just your average American... Considering how most citizens of the USA are ignorant of their Canadian neighbors, I found this book to be quite enjoyable and it opened my eyes to see just how close...and how different...our common histories are. At least now I know what a Trudeau Salute is! I recommend this book as a starting point for all Americans who want to understand Canada.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Canada to the max This has to be the most enjoyable history book I have ever read. It is a concise history of Canada presented in a most enjoyable way. There is very little, if any bias towards any of the multiple ethnic groups represented in our great history. I found this so enjoyable that I have included it in my daughter's education. If I had studied Canadian history this way as a child I wouldn't have found it so boring. Kudos to Will Ferguson.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Magnificent Book I agree completely with your first reviewer. Will Ferguson's book is undoubtedly a classic.Mr. Ferguson has a unique blend of the elegance, style and rythm of a celebrated novelist, together with the earthy simplicity and directness of a traditional story teller. This is always a difficult blend to achieve and separates out the good from the great. Canadian History for Dummies is relentless in its pursuit of the Truth and as a result, achieves all that a great book of history should - fairness, accuracy, justice and complete impartiality in its presentation of the facts. It is much more of course, than a great book of history - it is storytelling at its masterful best, it is lucid, entertaining and elegant; its style is alternately majestic and subdued, and elevated and exultant as the rythm of the history of this great Land unfolds. A true classic for all time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Canadian History for Dummies...Is great! This book is both funny, entertaining and very informative. For anyone that wants to know more about this wonderful country without reading dry history books! A good sit-down read or a book to pick up and read a few pages. Very well written, I enjoyed it a lot!!!
