Candy Everybody Wants

by Josh Kilmer-Purcell

HarperCollins | July 1, 2008 | Kobo Edition (eBook)

Candy Everybody Wants is rated 5 out of 5 by 1.

From the critically acclaimed author of I Am Not Myself These Days comes the very odd adventures of a starry-eyed young man from the Midwest seeking fame and fortune in the flamboyant surreality of New York, Los Angeles . . . and everywhere in between.

Jayson Blocher is tired of worshiping pop culture; he wants to be part of it. So he's off, accompanied by an ever-changing cast of quirky extended family members, on an extremely bumpy journey from rural Wisconsin to a New York escort agency for Broadway chorus boys, to a Hollywood sitcom set. Somewhere out there his destiny awaits—along with the discovery of first love, some unusual coincidences, a kidnapping mystery . . . and the sobering truth that being America's sweetheart can leave a very sour aftertaste.

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Must Read! This is the first book that I've read by Josh Kilmer-Purcell, and incidentally, his first foray into fiction. I found this book intensely satisfying, like curling up with a good book and a bowl of ice-cream, because the characters were so well developed. We have the teenage Jayson, who craves fame and will stop at nothing to get it. We have Jayson's mother, who appears at first glance to be an unfit parent, but by the end we realize that she loves her sons deeply and would give up everything to make them happy. We have Trey and Tara, the twins with the overprotective, neurotic mother who are intent on following their own paths. Add in a couple of plot twists, more unbelievable secondary characters, and a novel is born! I loved this book and would reccommend it highly to anyone who is looking for a good summer read. Highly entertaining, yet thought-provoking in its own way!
