#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts—hailed by Publishers Weekly as “a storyteller of immeasurable diversity and talent”—presents the first book in her mesmerizing new Three Sisters Island trilogy. Set on a remote, rocky island off the coast of Massachusetts, steeped in history, romance, and legend, Dance Upon the Air is an unforgettable tale of friendship, fate, and the mysterious ways of the heart…

When Nell Channing arrives on charming Three Sisters Island, she believes that she’s finally found refuge from her abusive husband—and from the terrifying life she fled so desperately eight months ago… But even in this quiet, peaceful place, Nell never feels entirely at ease. Careful to conceal her true identity, she takes a job as a cook at the local bookstore café—and begins to explore her feelings for the island sheriff, Zack Todd. But there is a part of herself she can never reveal to him—for she must continue to guard her secrets if she wants to keep the past at bay. One careless word, one misplaced confidence, and the new life she’s created so carefully could shatter completely. Just as Nell starts to wonder if she’ll ever be able to break free of her fear, she realizes that the island suffers under a terrible curse—one that can only be broken by the descendants of the Three Sisters, the witches who settled the island back in 1692. And now, with the help of two other strong, gifted women—and with the nightmares of the past haunting her every step—she must find the power to save her home, her love…and herself…

Rated 5 out of 5 by from review Love all of her books

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Witchy romance Nell Channing arrives on Three Sisters island with nothing. She happens to walk into the bookstore/cafe just as the present cook is leaving and gets the job. Nell is running from a horrid past. She faked her own death in order to escape an abusive relationship. Nell finds a place where she can heal. She finds out her boss is a witch and furthermore so is she. And most important she finds Zach. Zach is the local policeman and a genuine good guy. This is a fairly typical romance. It is nice that Nell grows and becomes the woman she can be instead of a scared rabbit. It is also nice that Zach seems to be just an ordinary nice guy instead of one of those hunks that are usually in romance stories.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent! Great characters, suspense and magic! I really enjoyed this book! Roberts does a great job of making you connect to the characters in the story very early, so that you are really invested in their lives and rooting for them almost from the first page. The magic aspect is well-written, with the introduction of the three "sisters" and their varying knowledge and participation in their abilities being quite different. There really is a character for almost anyone to connect to here. The characters of Nell, Mia and Ripley are totally different, but there is charm and humour in all three of them. The plot of this book, while predictable [once you know Nell's a battered wife hiding from her husband, you just KNOW he's going to find her] is still completely engrossing and moves at an inexorably intense pace. Roberts does her usual excellent job in ratcheting up the suspense and the closer you get to the end the more keyed up you are to find out how it will end. The story is a great set up for the next two books in this trilogy, and if you like the combination of magic and romance, I recommend this. It has all the right elements and was a terrific read!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One of her best I love Nora Roberts though I have been disappointed with her most recent trilogies. This one reminds me of what I love about her books. This whole trilogy is great and this book is the best of the three.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You did it again Nora! This book has been one of the best books I have ever read! I can't wait to read the next two! From the first page to that last you are the edge of your seat trying to read faster to see what happens next. Nora Roberts makes you feel like you are there, on the island. Ms. Roberts describes everyone so well that by the end you feel as if you know the characters personally. And my final words: Zach Todd, oh my! This book is well worth reading!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dance Upon the Air I couldn't put this book down...I thought about it all day at work...just wanting to get home to be able to read. Her description was so good it made me feel like I was there on Sister Island and could visualise all of the characters...Nell, Ripley, Zach...I can't wait to read the next one in this trilogy...You knew that Evan was going to end up there and find her and that Zach and Ripley and of course Mia would be there to save her. But it was still great to read it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful! I'm almost done reading this fantastic novel. Nora Roberts is an amazing author. I can't get over how wonderfully detailed this book is. I can almost smell the sea air, just like Nell did in the novel. This book is full of fantasy and romance and I think Nora Roberts does justice as she explains the life of a woman caught in a struggle between two lives as she tries to also live with the fact that she's a witch. Beautifully written!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Dance Of Your Life Dance Upon the Air, by Nora Roberts, was a phenomonal novel. I have read many of her other books, but this one is the cutest, most romantic one of all. You can totally just see the characters in full colour, with the way that she describes them. I definitly recommend to read this outstanding book.

Read from the Book

Chapter One She kept staring straight ahead as the knuckle of land, bumpy and green with distance, began revealing its secrets. The lighthouse, of course. What was an offshore New England island without its stalwart spear? This one, pure and dazzling white, rose on a craggy cliff. Just as it should, Nell thought. There was a stone house near it, fog-gray in the sharp summer sunlight, with peaked roofs and gables and what she hoped was a widow''s walk circling the top story. She''d seen paintings of the Light of the Sisters and the house that stood so strong and firm beside it. It was the one she''d seen in the little shop on the mainland, the one that had sent her impulsively to the car ferry. She''d been following impulse and instinct for six months, just two months after her meticulous and hard-worked plan had freed her. Every moment of those first two months had been terror. Then, gradually, terror had eased to anxiety, and a different kind of fear, almost like a hunger, that she would lose what she had found again. She had died so she could live. Now she was tired of running, of hiding, of losing herself in crowded cities. She wanted a home. Wasn''t that what she''d always wanted? A home, roots, family, friends. The familiar that never judged too harshly. Maybe she would find some part of that here, on this spit of land cradled by the sea. Surely she could get no farther away from Los Angeles than this pretty little island-not unless she left the country altogether. If sh
