HARPERCOLLINS PUBLISHERS | December 1, 1995 | Mass Market Paperbound

Dancing At Midnight is rated 4 out of 5 by 2.

Lady Arabella Blydon has beauty and a brain, and she's tired of men who can see only one without the other.

When a suitor tells Arabella he's willing to overlook her appalling bluestocking tendencies on account of her looks and fortune, she decides to take a break from the Marriage Mart. During an extended stay in the country, she never expects to meet Lord John Blackwood, a wounded war hero who intrigues her like no other man.

Lord John has lived through the worst horros of war...but nothing could have been as terrifying to his tormented heart as Lady Arabella. She is intoxicating, infuriating...and she makes him want to live again. Suddenly he's writing bad poetry and climbing trees in the pitch-dark night...just so he can dance with her as the clock strikes midnight. And even though he knows he can never be the sort of man she deserves, he can't help wanting her. But when the harsh light of day replaces the magic of midnight, can this tormented soul learn to love again?

Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from What a pleasant surprise Considering this is Julia Quinn's second novel, I wasn't expecting much improvement from her writing just yet. Boy was I ever surpised. I found this book thoroughly enjoyable, and fast paced. I think however, she did tweak Arabella's character in this novel, as opposed to the impression I got in the first novel where we were first introduced to her. Anyhow, this story was thoroughly enjoyable, and a little predictable. But in the name of love, Who Cares!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dancing at Midnight Lady Arabella Blydon is a sensible, practical beauty who has a determination and will of iron. After the marriage of her best friend, and cousin, Emma Dunster to Alexander Ridgely, Arabella's parents take an extended vacation in Italy. Arabella chooses to remain in England at Alex and Emma's ducal home, Westonbirt. Arabella spends her free time outdoors reading. It is on one of these occasions that she meets the handsome, but mysterious, Lord John Blackwood. Though immediately captivated by the blond beauty, John has deemed himself unworthy of any gentlewoman's attentions and so orders her off his property and out of his life. Yet, fate has other plans in store, including a mysterious stranger from John's past whose determined to kill him. This book is entertaining, and compelling. Ms Quinn has an incredible way of developing her characters in both a humorous and poignant way.
