It has become common knowledge that childhood obesity rates are increasing every year. But the rates continue to rise. And between busy work schedules and the inconvenient truth that kids simply refuse to eat vegetables and other healthy foods, how can average parents ensure their kids are getting the proper nutrition and avoiding bad eating habits?

As a mother of three, Jessica Seinfeld can speak for all parents who struggle to feed their kids right and deal nightly with dinnertime fiascos. As she wages a personal war against sugars, packaged foods, and other nutritional saboteurs, she offers appetizing alternatives for parents who find themselves succumbing to the fastest and easiest (and least healthy) choices available to them. Her modus operandi? Her book is filled with traditional recipes that kids love, except they''re stealthily packed with veggies hidden in them so kids don''t even know! With the help of a nutritionist and a professional chef, Seinfeld has developed a month''s worth of meals for kids of all ages that includes, for example, pureed cauliflower in mac and cheese, and kale in spaghetti and meatballs. She also provides revealing and humorous personal anecdotes, tear?out shopping guides to help parents zoom through the supermarket, and tips on how to deal with the kid that "must have" the latest sugar bomb cereal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clever! I am really glad that I purchased this book. Not only can I make healthy food for my infant, however my husband will get his vegetables too. Ha! The book is rather chatty, like a friend talking me about her children and cooking. I have only made the Creamy Potato Soup so far, and my whole family enjoyed it. Quite filling. This book is a great find for anyone looking to increase their vegetable intake while eating yummy recipes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from wary. plagiarism? I first heard of this book from a co-worker, mother of three. She's snuck veggies into her children's life, thanks to this book. It's a bargain book at Chapters right now, so I ordered one for myself and my friend. Decided afterwards, to google "Jessica Seinfeld recipes". Found several links to accusations of plagiarism. The links are all accusing her to have copied directly from The Sneaky Chef -- another book by a not-as-famous-author, that Chapters.ca, offers. Thanks for boosting Ms. Seinfeld, Oprah.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clever Cookbook! I love this cookbook! Everything I have tried so far was really good - follow all directions for success. The brownies were moist and yummy! I recommend it to anyone who loves weird and wonderful new recipes! Even if there is just a small amount of vegetables - better than none!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I'm 0 for 4! So I was all excited to get this book. I got it home, pureed everything in the house, stored it properly and began cooking. Well my 3 year old has refused everything I have made so far including the brownies, oatmeal, mac and cheese and the grilled cheese sandwhiches. I think it boils down to texture. The veggies change the texture of his faves so he's refusing to eat them. I think this book is intended to fool older kids. I've altered some of the recipies, and just started adding a small amount of pure to his faves like mac and cheese out of a box. It doesn't cost an arm and a leg to make and he seems to like it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from interesting idea Some interesting ideas, but really, I don't know if the small amount of fruit/veggie puree makes much of a difference per serving... I haven't calculated how many servings of a recipe you'd have to eat to actually get one serving of fruit and veg. It's better than nothing though, and especially in baked goods, the puree does make them moist!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Deceptively Delicious vs The Sneaky Chef Good premise for a cookbook. Adding fruits/veggies to food in a kid-friendly way...that is, disguised! I would recommend The Sneaky Chef cookbook over Deceptively Delicious as the recipes seem a bit healthier in Missy Chase Lapine's cookbook. Also, you will be able to feel extra virtuous because you have bought a book that is not endorsed by Oprah. Choose The Sneaky Chef!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this cookbook! The fruit and vegetable purées used in the recipes are easy to prepare and the dishes are tasty—my son loves them! I also like the nutritional information about the fruits and vegetables and the lists of must-have and nice-to-have kitchen tools and pantry items.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Resource for Feeding Children This is the best cookbook I have ever used. The recipies and tips are not only excellent for feeding children, but work well for any age. Vegetables are not always the first choice in todays world, so any way we can incorporate more fruits and vegetables into our daily lives is a welcome blessing. Hats off to Jessica for taking the time to discover some tasty and healthy alternatives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not only for children! I am a 62 year old woman who does not eat veggies. I watched Ms. Seinfeld on Oprah, and, I decided to try the recipes. My review is: they rock!!!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from What Is This.....? Deceptively Sneaky! I had bought the book sneaky chef and it was absoultly fabulous. Then I saw this one and I thought it was sooo cute with the retro look it had. Finding out that this book was featured on "Oprah" I thought hey why not. Well Jessica Seinfeld what a shame. This is a bad knock off of th sneaky chef. In fact the sneaky chef is far superior. Just because she is married to a "celeb" which got her on Oprah in the first place. Please don't buy this book buy Sneaky Chef!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific Taste! I saw this book on Oprah and thought that it was a fabulous idea so I ordered the book right away! I have not been disappointed! Not only is it a great way to slip more veggies into our children's diets, it is even better to get more into my husband's diet! I would recommend this book to anyone who is not a veggie lover! It is a great way to get your 7 veggies a day!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sneaky Seinfeld This book is way too similar to The Sneaky Chef, written by Missy Chase Lapine. Mrs. Seinfeld is not original with this rip off and it's not as good as Lapine's book (who happens to be more reputable).Be warned. Spend your money elsewhere.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Healthy Alternatives Overall - I'm really glad I purchased this book. I don't have kids but I am always on the lookout for new techniques and ideas for healthy eating. It is beautifully done as far as layout and appearance. Second it gives lots of ideas which I will use as jumping off points. I have made four of the recipes and have made minor changes to them to make them work for me. Much has been said about the similarities to the "Sneaky Chef" book and some of it may be true; however, I find these recipes much lower in fat and sugar which is of concern to me. As far as drawbacks, I have tweaked the recipes for seasoning since I am serving to adults, but I'm sure they are fine as written for kids. I would have like to have seen a nutrition content for each recipe and I would like to know how much nutrition is retained in the veggies once they have been cooked to be pureed and then cooked a second time in the actual recipe. I am now thinking of ways to add purees to my favorite recipes to cut down on fat while retaining moisture in the foods.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING! This cookbook has a great layout and very easy to follow recipes. I made the chocolate chip cookies (with chick peas) and they are great! Can't wait to try the rest of the fabulous ideas. A must buy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Easy! This is an absolute gem for young families. It is easy to read and easy to implement the ideas. I love Jessica's ideas. Jessica has included all a young families favorites. The things we make day in and day out in a more health way. I am a full time working Mom and I was able to get started on these ideas right away with leftovers from our family thanksgiving dinner. I really feel like her concept of meal planning and shopping is totally workable into my busy lifestyle. It is an easy, funny read and has lots of great information and recipes. Our family really enjoyed the spaghetti pie. Thanks Jessica!
