by Laini Taylor

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers | April 8, 2014 | Hardcover

Dreams Of Gods & Monsters is rated 5 out of 5 by 1.
In this thrilling conclusion to the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy, Karou is still not ready to forgive Akiva for killing the only family she''s ever known.
When a brutal angel army trespasses into the human world, Karou and Akiva must ally their enemy armies against the threat--and against larger dangers that loom on the horizon. They begin to hope that it might forge a way forward for their people. And, perhaps, for themselves--maybe even toward love.
From the streets of Rome to the caves of the Kirin and beyond, humans, chimaera, and seraphim will fight, strive, love, and die in an epic theater that transcends good and evil, right and wrong, friend and enemy.

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Review from Swept Away By Books To anyone who has been around my blog for a while, my love for this series is very well known. The writing is spectacular, the world building is perfectly done, tensions are always high, the love story is epic and the characters are brilliant. Dreams of Gods and Monsters finished this series off perfectly. Taylor did a brilliant job of subtly recapping the events of the previous books and I loved the way she went back from the epilogue of Days of Blood and Starlight to explain how they all got to be where they were. It wasn't non stop action, and it wasn't the happiest ending, but I never expected there to be. It felt so sincere to the characters and storyline. Karou and Akiva were easily my favourite part of this book. They both were of the mind that they were ready for happiness, and despite every hardship that had come in their way in the past, they weren't going to let it consume them anymore. They began to rely on each other and their moments together were infinitely sweet. One thing I love about Laini is that, even though this series is young adult, she lets it known that her characters have sex and want it to. It's refreshing and allows for brilliant build up and tension. The secondary characters once again, shone throughout this book and made it absolutely amazing. Mik and Zuzana were hilarious and loyal and so so strong through everything. Ziri was brilliant, and I am so happy with how much he was featured, as well as his ending. Liraz was my biggest and happiest surprise of all. Her development was so genuine and heart warming! Taylor also introduced a new character in Eliza, who I was a little indifferent to. She really didn't make any sense to me until the ending and i'm glad she ended up playing the part she did. Overall, I am seriously struggling to put into words how amazingly wonderful and perfect this book was to finish off a series that is in my top 3 favourites of all time. I am exceptionally sad to see these characters go, but am very pleased with the ending they had. One other thing, Taylor referenced the butterfly shawl scene from Daughter of Smoke and Bone and it is my favourite passage from a book ever. I teared up when she mentioned it!
