Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Review from Esther's Ever After Embrace was a hit for me, and I was incredibly anxious to see how Violet would grow and change in the next book (along with everyone else and the rest of the story, of course). I had a few concerns about where I thought the series might end up going, but I was so impressed when I read Entice and realized it wasn't going to follow that predictable pattern exactly the way I thought it would. And not only that, but I greedily devoured the story in this one and I'm ALREADY craving the final book, Emblaze! So much development took place in Entice, and while it still didn't blow my expectations out of the water it still surpassed them. Reasons to Read: 1. A fantastic & atypical love triangle: My biggest reservations regarding the Violet Eden series has been regarding the love triangle; love triangles have just been done to death, and they're often exactly the same as every other one out there. The first book, Embrace, doesn't give us the best impression of the Phoenix and Violet and Lincoln triangle but I can assure you after reading Entice that it is moving in a GREAT direction. It's just painful enough, but strays from the area of becoming TOO much and too annoying. (And because I'm clearly Team Linc, I just have to say that he does WELL in this book. So, so well.) 2. Intoxicating action scenes: Jessica's writing is good, but I find where it really shines (besides the kissing scenes which are also well done) is with the fight scenes. These are fight scenes where I literally cannot read fast enough, and my fingers are turning the pages as fast as I can to try and find out what's going to happen. I completely lose my mind to the story. 3. Plenty of insight about the key themes: Entice is pretty heavy on the themes of free will, consequences and betrayal. These are the three ideas that keep the story focused and moving forward and lend a bit more realism to the story. They're exactly the types of things most readers will find easy to relate to, and cause plenty of problems for the characters. But I was easily impressed with how thoughtful Jessica was regarding these ideas, and how there are both benefits and drawbacks to them. And they make for some excellent twists! That being said, there were a few times I felt like I was a little bit lost with the sudden plot twists when they initally came up and they had to be thoroughly explained before I could completely follow the gravity of the situation. And in some ways, some of the story was a bit predictable - nothing's easy for the budding romantic relationships, love has its costs, and not everyone is who you think they are - although some times those insticts about someone turn out to be right. I wish I hadn't been able to figure these things out so early on in the story, but I'm definitely curious to see where they go later on in the last book! And I hope the love plot isn't dragged out quite as much. It's good, but I would really like to see things settled by the end. ARC received from publisher for review; no other compensation was received.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really Enjoy this Series! I wasn't really sure where this book was going to go. The way that the first one ended really left it wide open for for so many things. This one picked back up where Embrace left off and kind of got me back in the groove of things. Violet is still trying to get a handle on everything going on and well there is a lot going on! She can't get over her feelings for Lincon but tries to act as if everything is okay. There are new people that have arrived to help Violet train and Madga is back. Not that Violet can say she is happy about it seeing the girl is practically throwing herself at Lincon. There is also trouble brewing and it seems that Phoenix may be in the mix. Still learning what she is capable of and trying to figure out what is going on is proving to be trying. Oh and there seems to be something a little fishy going on. The question sits as what and who is causing it? There are many ways that Violet grew but in others she didn't. She has become something that she didn't want to and has become much more accepting of that. Truth be told I was expecting a little more rebellion and regret but she seems to be Embracing the idea. Well maybe not embracing it but rising up to it. She did however seem to continue to over think everything that came her way. At times I admired that she thought things through and other times I just wanted to shake her. If she was perfect though I guess that I would be complaining about that. The fact that she shows hesitation and intelligence though is appreciated at times though, like when she has to save someone. Basically what I'm trying to say is that she did grow but kept some of the qualities that pick at me but I still love her. There is also the new people to consider here and well they are a fun bunch. I would be lying if I said that I didn't love Spence. He is just so full of everything! Totally helped that he didn't instantly dive into trying to get Violet. He liked her but more as a personal adventure than a love interest. As he put it he likes to be the only one, not into sharing. He does however want nothing more than to live up to his Grigori heritage and kick some butt. """"" The romance is far more complicated than it was before. I had a hard time telling if maybe in some twisted strange way that Violet still had some inkling of feelings for Phoenix somewhere inside of her. Though her heart does still seem to remain with Lincon. I could kick him sometimes and pray that him and Violet don't drive me into insanity. Though I do understand to a point what they have to loose and exactly what they are risking but how is the risk not worth it. Even though you know the odds and the consequences how could you not chance it?! Doesn't love conquer all and all that jazz? Though I do appreciate the drama to an extent, I can't take all of the back and forth. This is a series that I am addicted to and there is no denying that. Shirvinton has a talent and her writing is addictive. It's full of action, romance, betrayal and this is all smoothly written into one book. Sometimes I find that the transition between these things isn't smooth but with this series I find no problem with the transition. I look forward to the next book and seeing where everything takes us.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow what a Sequel!! In the second novel of Jessica Shirvingtons, Violet Eden series, it had me in a mixture of emotions with all the characters. This highly anticipated sequel to Embrace was definitely worth the wait because in Entice it has more actions, romance, and Violet beginning to realize more about her abilities as an Grigori. I loved every minute of reading this book because these characters are so fun to read about. There are new characters introduced which was awesome! With her relationship with Linc hanging in the balance. Phoenix is back and he will surprise us with what he is planning. Jessica Shirvington creativity has brought many reasons of why you should read this series. Violet is a character who some readers can relate too. Her love triangle between Linc and Phoenix is more interesting than every after what happened in the first book! While struggling to still be a teenager as well as becoming a Grigori with training her abilities we see her grow more comfortable in this position. As in the last book I had a hard time choosing who I wanted Violet to be with but in this book I was totally rooting for the awesome trainer who stole my heart, Linc. He was a little sneaky in the beginning but he got more heroic and with him and Violet together in the room you can feel the tension. Steph is one of the best friends who is able to help the Grigori team as well as meet the new team of Spence and other team members. A lots of things happened in the novel which I won't giveaway because this book was fantastic at making you understand what was going to happen with the plot and what the meaning of finding out what the Scriptures are with some help with Onyx who makes his reappearance. I did not like Magda from the beginning and she did some stuff that will make you think about what was happening at the beginning. Spencer is one of my new favorite characters because he is the jokester whose personality can make you laugh. He still hasnt found his partner yet since they haven't turned of age but he is a little like Violet in trying to be sneaky and get into trouble. Entice was one great read! If you enjoyed Embrace definitely pick up the sequel because it will bring you on an emotional roller coaster at the same time rooting for the good Grigori! Phoenix will be playing a major role in the next one and I wonder what will happen in book 3 because Entice was really good and the story made me want to re-read it!! Tons of action, kissing, and intensity that will make you breeze through this big book, but its worth it! Now I need book 3!!
