From Our Editors

The scandalous world of the royals in 18th-century England is unveiled in this titillating biography about one of its brightest and most influential women, Georgiana, the Duchess of Devonshire. A forebear of Diana, Princess of Wales, Georgiana led a wickedly colourful life in and out of court, a glamorous and powerful figure who nonetheless was a gambler, drug addict and adulterer. Nominated for the 1999 Whitbread Prize, Amanda Foreman's Georgiana: Duchess of Devonshire tells the compelling story of an eccentric royal who held considerable prestige and political power and who was as adored as her beloved descendant.
