Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! I have been looking for specific answers to some issues I have been having with my puppy. After several E-books and several other dog books I found the one! I am so happy! This book is easy to read and understand. It is very informative and straight to the point. You will not need any other dog book. This is the one. Trust me after reading many other books I have found the one that addresses every issue and it does not cost a lot of money. Save time and money, This is the book for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best dog training book I've recommended this one to every friend and acquaintance with a new dog. Now we're getting another dog, and rather than borrowing it again from the library, I'm finally buying my own copy. Straightforward, practical advice, easy to read, easy to follow. Dogs would be better off if more people read this one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A top book!!!!! This is a very well written book. Not only is it very informative but it is a pleasure to read. It is one of the few reference books I have read that has kept me interested in learning more and more without being overly repetitive or boring. The techniques and general suggestions by the author not only teach you specific methods, they set an easily understood (although much harder to practice) tone which is encouraging. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in having a well behaved dog.

From Our Editors

With humans, the great nature versus nurture debate rears its head with regularity. But with dogs, it's pretty simple: while nature, or rather breeding, plays a well-documented role, nurture plays an even bigger one. After reading Kilcommons Good Owners, Great Dogs , that point is made even clearer: an improperly trained human results in an improperly trained dog. Kilcommons -- a professional dog trainer and former student of the famous British trainer Barbara Woodhouse (Walkies anyone?)-- and Wilson, who gives the lead to Kilcommons in this collaboration, get into the head of your pet to help raise a happy, well-behaved puppy and provide solutions to several particularly annoying and sometimes dangerous behaviours in older dogs. These problems run the gamut from the usual barking, chewing, housebreaking and begging to some more problematic issues such as aggression, separation anxiety and possessiveness. Kilcommons and Wilson have littered (pun intended) this manual with helpful photos, but they don't mince words when it comes to putting humans in their place. In the section entitled "Off," we are told that "Jumping dogs are almost always our fault." But he goes on to explain simply and clearly how to deal with the problem. ("If you don't want your dog to jump, don't reward him when he does." Who hasn't petted a leaping dog when greeted enthusiastically at the door.) Your relationship with your dog will last a long time and Kilcommons and Wilson give you all the information
