I purchased the digital book for my Kobo. Russell's writing is excellent, but I find the book is very difficult to navigate in this format. The Table of Contents does not include chapters - it lists only the three books and major parts of this 700-page work. A few chapters are included in the table of contents almost at random - eg, chapter 30 of book 1 part 3. The print version has an index, but this is lacking in the digital version. Since the Kobo doesn't have search capabilities, this means that when I wanted to find the chapter Russell wrote about Locke, I ended up having to go to Google Books and searching there to find what section of the digital book it is in, then scrolling through 80-odd pages on the Kobo to read it. I thought I'd save some trees and shelf space by buying the digital version, but it's so poorly produced that I've given up, and will buy an old-fashioned paper copy instead.

I have enjoyed Russell's fluid style of writing very much and this single volume History of Western Philosophy is a good quick reference and relatively easy reading for anyone interested in the subject matter. Many works of this nature tend to be laborious and thus discouraging to a newcomer. Russell's book is a joy to read. Regardless of some personal differences in his treatment of certain philosophers I highly recommend the book. --.
