Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dante's Inferno Not a bad book 2 to this series. A bit formulaic, and still too much explaining re the Breed and the war vs the Rogues. By now, we get it and just need to gain more insight into the warriors and their mates, so we become invested in their 'lives'. I enjoyed this book, but I'm still not feeling attached to the Breed (yet) like I am to the Brotherhood in JR Ward's series! That said, the romance between Dante and Tess was steamy, the plotline was advanced (baby steps), and while there was no cliff hanger to prompt me onto book 3 straight away, I will definitely be picking it up soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It was destiny Kiss of Crimson is the 2nd book from the fantastic Midnight Breed series. This book revolves around the warrior Dante. His only interest in life is to kill Rogues, and he's damn good at it. He's also haunted by visions of his demise. One night while killing rogues, he finds himself almost mortally wounded. He goes to a vet clinic where Tess, the clinic's veterinarian is working late. Tess attempts to save Dante but doesn't realize that he's Breed and Dante takes her blood to save himself. Dante doesn't realize until it's too late that Tess is a Breedmate, and has forged 1/2 of a blood bond. This book has a great subplot from Agent Sterling Chase, who is on a mission to save his nephew from a drug called Crimson. Crimson turns the Breed into Rogues and he is on a mission to find his nephew before it's too late. I find his character intriguing and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for “Harvard”. This book was so much better than the first in the series, and that's saying alot. I love Dante's character, his struggles with his visions and his convictions. Tess is a beautiful woman, with a wonderful caring soul who has been through so much in her life. The two make such a wonderful match. I love how they were destined to be together. Both complete opposites but complement each other so well. Plus the sex scenes in this book are hot!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Shaping up to be a great series This is the second book in the Midnight Breed series and I'm really enjoying these books, again there alot like the BDB series but they still have there own twist to keep them interesting. This was Dante's book and I was excited to read his book, he seemed like a very interesting character and he didn't dissapoint. I really enjoyed the texed in this book it gave me a few chuckles here and there.Overall the book was great I really enjoyed it. Check it out. :0)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Good The second in the Midnight breed series, and very good. I didn't think it was as good as the first, but I did like it, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. This one sets up the next book nicely, Tegan's story.68/1000

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Series Continues Wonderfully! After confronting and being outnumbered by a group of deadly Rogues, Dante is left full of bullets and in need of blood. In a search or a host to feed from, Dante encounters veterinarian Tess Culver and bites her out of desperation to survive. Once he has fed and regained some strength, Dante realizes that Tess is a Breedmate and that by feeding from her he’s just performed half of a sacred bonding ritual. Dante and Tess feel a deep attraction to one another, and Dante knows he must bring Tess into his world to protect her from the rapidly increasing number of Rogue vampires in the area, but both have dark pasts and secrets that they hide. Kiss of Crimson is the second novel in Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series. Since all the basic background information and plot setup was done in the first novel, this book dove headfirst into continuing the plot and developing a relationship between Tess and Dante. I found this novel to be quite a tease with the way things were revealed and how tension built between the main characters. The whole time I was anxious for more! The continuing inter-novel plot progressed moderately, but there was plenty of action and excitement. Tess and Dante’s story, on the other hand, moved very quickly and with a lot of intensity. There were also some developments for a couple of the other warriors which hint at what is to come in the series. You won’t be bored reading Kiss of Crimson! From the glimpses of Dante in the first book, Kiss of Midnight, I already had a very hot mental picture of him, but I was surprised at how much more there was to his character. For example, Dante is haunted by very disturbing visions of the future. By giving him a weakness, it made him a much more relatable (and likeable) character. Tess seemed like a perfect fit for Dante because she also had qualities that she viewed as a weakness. Her dark, disturbing history was a bit of a surprise to me, but it resulted in my sympathizing with her as her past was explored. There was a lot of sexual tension between Tess and Dante starting early on in the book, but things took a bit longer to get really steamy than they did in the first novel. That’s not a complaint though because Kiss of Crimson isn’t lacking in the lovin’ department. When things heat up, they are very intimate and very explicit. Passion is a major factor between the characters, but I enjoyed how Adrian added another level to their relationship. Both Tess and Dante have a hard time accepting certain qualities about themselves out of fear, so they take comfort in each other while learning to accept who they are. Maybe it’s just me, but I appreciate when an author adds more than just sex to a relationship between characters. As an added bonus, there is a subplot in this novel that gives the reader a bit of a preview of what is to come with Tegan in the next novel. Kiss of Crimson is a great follow-up to the first novel. If you weren’t hooked on the series after Kiss of Midnight, you will be after Kiss of Crimson. I started reading the next novel, Midnight Awakening, as soon as I finished the last sentence of Kiss of Crimson. That’s how addictive the series is!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Even better than the first..... This is the second book in the Midnight Breed Series. Dante, a fierce Breed warrior, encounters Tess, the isolated veterinarian, by accident. Desperate for blood after barely surviving a brutal attack, he uses Tess and later finds out she is a Breedmate. He has against her will and knowledge (since he has cleaned her memory) completed half of the bonding ritual tying himself to her forever. Dante and Tess are both running. They are running from fear, death, their haunting pasts and as both try to break down each other’s barriers the blood bond that ties them causes their emotions to deepen and their attraction for each other becomes unbearable . Tess gets caught in the middle of the war against the Rogues and Dante finds himself torn between his honour as a warrior to defend his race above all else and the feelings that he has developed for Tess. As the war escalates Dante risks everything for her safety despite the consequences. I loved this book. It was a fast-paced page turner, romantic, action packed with a little humour thrown in..the dialogue between Dante and Sterling Chase (a Darkhaven agent) is hilarious. I thought Kiss of Crimson was even better than the first book, Kiss of Midnight. You won’t be disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm hooked! This series is just as good as the Black Dagger Brotherhood-JR Ward and the Areaneau novels-Lynsay Sands. They grab you from the first chapter and you can't put it down. Dante finds his bonded mate,Tess, when he takes her blood to survive life threatening injuries he received in a battle. It's not till after he realizes that she has the mark of a breedmate, and half the bond is complete. While on a mission to stop the drug crimson which is creating rogues, Dante can't stop thinking about Tess, or even having a chance to be with her. He has to tell her about what has happened between them and his world, but he doesn't know how and afraid if he does, he may lose the one woman he truely loves.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty Good I really like how this series have realistic problems in them, like drug addiction, I think it makes the stories much easier to read. Dante seems to grow on you as the story goes. Turns out to be quite the knight in shining, or black, armour. I can hardly wait for Tegans story. I think he is going to be my favorite.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great read This novel was great. Action packed just like the first, with a great bit of romance. I loved it. Hearty and full, another perfect one to curl up with on a cold night. But as good as it was, it doesn’t rival the first.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Another very good book in this series I don’t know how I avoided it – becoming addicted to JR Wards BDB series. I’ve read the first two so far and while I really enjoyed them, especially Rhage’s story, somehow I haven’t become addicted to them like many have. Now the Midnight Breed series are almost a different story. I may be one of a very few, but I actually am enjoying this series more. I find the world building better, the heroines much stronger, the villains not nearly as obnoxious and thank the stars – no silly Scribe Virgin. Dante is the kind of hero who wants no entanglements. His prophetic mother predicted a bad ending for him and he’s almost just putting in time until his number is up. He is badly injured in a fight with some Rogues – the bad guys in this series, vampires who have succumbed to blood lust and gone over to the dark side. He stumbles into the veterinary clinic of the heroine, Tess, and in a weakened state, drinks her blood, only to discover much to his horror that she is a blood mate – a rare kind of human female that can mate with and give birth to one of the Breed heroes. He is more than dismayed because this creates a bond between them that can only be broken by death and he wants nothing to do with having a mate. I really liked this book; I thought both Dante and Tess were great characters. Tess was a fairly strong character, much more so than the heroines in the BDB books I think. As I said there weren’t that many sex scenes, but the sexual tension between the two was very good. I mentioned in my previous post on Kiss of Midnight, that I kind of like the idea that these vampires are actually from another planet that ended up on earth a long time ago.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Meh.. The description captivated me enough to check this out from my local library, but once reading the story, I found it to be a watered down version of the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. I wasn't very fond of that series, as it became too far fetched. (Even for a vampire novel.) This book was a little more grounded, thus much more convincing than J. R. Ward's work. Tess was freshing at the beginning, but fell into the same trap every other female in these vampire tales stumbles on. Damsel in distress, hero comes in saves her, they're in love, yay! I must agree with other reviewers when I say that it was an okay read, if one has nothing else to do. I don't think I'd bother with purchasing these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't Go Wrong! First, I need to thank Crystal. Had it not been for her review and recommendation, I may never have heard of Lara Adrian or her novels. Thank you, Crystal! An excellent novel! I know it took me two days to read it, but I was having a hard time putting it down when I was. Every description of the scene and location has you feeling like you're there, taking it all in with your own eyes. Action scenes have you damn near holding your breath in anticipation - enough of them and all in the right places. Erotic sex scenes make you hot under the collar - enough of them and in all the right places, LOL! And the characters! Nothing simple about them, especialy the main characters. You completely understand their world, what they are, who they are, why they do what they do and what it means to them. The vampire world comes to the reader in a small, different twist from the norm. I can only think of one other author where the vampire world came about with a slight similarity and that's Angela Knight. Otherwise, original. A great new author. I just pulled her second novel, Kiss of Crimson, from my TBR pile!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Yummy! Another author in the vampire genre. Good vamps fighting the bad vamps from destroying human kind while finding love in their war. It doesn't hurt that the heroes are all hunky males! If you like J.R. Ward, you should like this too.

About the Book

Adrian follows her "Kiss of Midnight" with this thrilling new work of paranormal romantic intrigue that conjures a dark, enticing world where one vampire warrior discovers he has fallen for his prey. Original.

Read from the Book

Chapter One Dante smoothed his thumb over sweet female flesh, lingering at the carotid, where the human''s pulse throbbed the strongest. His own pulse quickened too, responding to the rush of blood flowing beneath the surface of delicate white skin. Dante leaned his dark head in and kissed that tender spot, letting his tongue play over the fluttering race of the female''s heartbeat. "Tell me," he murmured against the warm skin, his voice a low growl amid the heaving beat of the club''s music, "are you a good witch or a bad witch?" The female squirmed in his lap, her fishnet-clad legs straddling him, black lace-up bustier pushing her breasts up under his chin like a buffet. She twirled her finger in her bright fuchsia wig, then let it trail down suggestively, past a Celtic cross tattoo and into her swelling cleavage. "Oh, I''m a very, very bad witch." Dante grunted. "My favorite." He smiled into her drunken gaze, not bothering to hide his fangs. He was one of many vampires in the Boston dance club that Halloween night, although most of them were pretenders. Humans sporting plastic teeth, fake blood, and various ridiculous costumery. A few others--himself and a handful of males from one of the vampire nation''s Darkhaven sanctuaries, hanging out near the dance floor--were the genuine article. Dante and the others were Breed, a far cry from the pale, gothic vampires of human folklore. Neither undead nor devil-spawned, Dante''s kind were a
