LOVE ANTHONY is rated 3 out of 5 by 2.
From award-winning New York Times bestselling author Lisa Genova comes a heartfelt novel in the vein of Jodi Picoult, about an accidental friendship that helps a grieving mother understand the thoughts of her autistic son.

I'm always hearing about how my brain doesn't work right…But it doesn't feel broken to me.

Olivia Donatelli's dream of a "normal" life shattered when her son, Anthony, was diagnosed with autism at age three. He didn't speak. He hated to be touched. He almost never made eye contact. And just as Olivia was starting to realize that happiness and autism could coexist, Anthony was gone.

Now she's alone on Nantucket, desperate to find meaning in her son's short life, when a chance encounter with another woman brings Anthony alive again in a most unexpected way.

In a warm, deeply human story reminiscent of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, Daniel Isn't Talking, and The Reason I Jump, New York Times bestselling author Lisa Genova offers us two unforgettable women on the verge of change and the irrepressible young boy with autism whose unique wisdom helps them both find the courage to move on.

Reviews

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible and disappointing This is a terribly disappointing book and I was bored. This is the 3rd book of Lisa's that I have read and the only one that I loved was "Still Alice". She is a one hit wonder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Simple Great Story I read this book for an upcoming book club meeting. I don't think I would have read this book otherwise. I was not aware of it. This book tells the story of two women. Both are going through very traumatic events in their lives. One is going through the possible breakup of her marriage. The other is getting over the break up of her marriage and the death of autistic child. They are both trying to cope in the best way they can. One has the support of her friends. The other is on her own. This was a character driven story. The two main characters are really well developed as teh story does revolve around them. The other characters in the story are developed well enough to keep the story moving and explain their actions and prompt the main characters actions. Even the setting of Nantucket Island is very well described to help the story along. There is a third character is the book that is developed, that of the dead son, Athony. The grieving mother is going over her journals and reliving memories of Anthony. The author starts to write a fictional book from an autistic child's point of view. That child's name is Anthony. The resemblence between the fictional Anthony and the real Anthony is very strong. It helps bring closure to both women's problems. The book was very well done. I really enjoy books in which the characters are well developed. It does take a leap of faith to believe that one woman can write that accurately about a dead person she has never met. That is what makes the book so interesting. I really enjoyed this book. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a well writen book. I can see why she is a best-seeling author. We are going to have a good discussion at book club. Could get emotional.
