Amelia Willoughby has been engaged to the Duke of Wyndham for as long as she can remember. Literally. A mere six months old when the contracts were signed, she has spent the rest of her life waiting. And waiting. And waiting . . . for Thomas Cavendish, the oh-so-lofty duke, to finally get around to marrying her. But as she watches him from afar, she has a sneaking suspicion that he never thinks about her at all . . .

It''s true. He doesn''t. Thomas rather likes having a fiancée-all the better to keep the husband-hunters at bay-and he does intend to marry her . . . eventually. But just when he begins to realize that his bride might be something more than convenient, Thomas''s world is rocked by the arrival of his long-lost cousin, who may or may not be the true Duke of Wyndham. And if Thomas is not the duke, then he''s not engaged to Amelia. Which is the cruelest joke of all, because this arrogant and illustrious duke has made the mistake of falling in love . . . with his own fiancée!

Reviews

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Neat idea, but failed... The problem with this book is that it is a side story of "The Lost Duke of Wyndham", it is a neat idea to make the story take place at the same time as the previous book - but however if fails to deliver. Here's why, about 50% of the book is exactly the same as "The Lost Duke of Wyndham" (same scenes, same dialogue, everything), and as I had just read the lost Duke story - I found myself skimming pages...trying to read only the parts that were new. It was like reading the same story twice - except this time from a different viewpoint. I acknowledge that in some instances this could work - but in this case it was too much.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not her best...... The book is very slow moving, character development is weak at best and the plot is all over the place. Even with the threat of a new duke...nothing seems to build any excitement. I was so looking forward to this book and was quite let down. Julia Quinn is normally fabulous - not sure what happened here. I barely made it through - the book was dry.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Uh...It was okay I found it decent, i was well written but it was very passive. I never really got invested in the characters because they never seemed invested in each other. They rarely, if ever, discussed there worries and problems and never truly worked to be together. Everyone seemd to drift through the story. Even the possibility of another duke was rather mild. When the read the roster there was little anticipation because, as everyone kept saying, the outcome was already known by me and everyone else in the book. I didn't really dislike it but i was not as invested as i usually get
