From Our Editors
In America just after the Second World War, one novel stood apart
from the rest: Norman Mailer's The Naked and the
Dead. The gritty story of a Marine platoon stationed
on the Japanese-held island of Anopopei, written by
Mailer when he was just 22, The Naked
and the Dead was hailed by critics for its realism
and poignancy, and its author praised for his maturity and talent.
The 50th-anniversary edition of this American classic features a
new introduction by the author.
