Naked: Tag: The New York Times Bestseller Tag 2: Au of Barrel Fever &Holiday is rated 4.1429 out of 5 by 7.
Welcome to the hilarious, strange, elegiac, outrageous world of David Sedaris. In Naked, Sedaris turns the mania for memoir on its ear, mining the exceedingly rich terrain of his life, his family, and his unique worldview-a sensibility at once take-no-prisoners sharp and deeply charitable. A tart-tongued mother does dead-on imitations of her young son''s nervous tics, to the great amusement of his teachers; a stint of Kerouackian wandering is undertaken (of course!) with a quadriplegic companion; a family gathers for a wedding in the face of imminent death. Through it all is Sedaris''s unmistakable voice, without doubt one of the freshest in American writing.

Reviews

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not that funny This is a collection of autobiographical essays that are supposed to be hilarious. Unfortunately while I did find a couple amusing, hilarious they were not. Sedaris has led a very offbeat life and most of the essays evoked sympathy rather than humour. I also found Sedaris to be rather full of himself. To be honest, I am not a fan of short stories and that might have been a bit of the problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful. As always, David Sedaris delivers in "Naked". Filled with bizarrely delightful vignettes, it's probably my favourite of all his books. I recommend it to everyone who enjoys raw, off-kilter humour

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Literally laugh out loud I loved this book. It was a random book selection at an out of town bookstore. Since I read this book, I've also read another by the same author and can't wait to read my next one. This book will have you laughing out loud again and again, and this is not just a figure of speech here. The author brings up embarassing and humourous situations that I think most people can relate to on some level as well as allowing others to glimpse an experience they may never have in their life. I had to call my sister to read out loud an exerpt about the warnings the character's father shares with him about common tasks such as mowing the lawn. I laugh just remembering this part as well as others. I've sinced passed this book on to a couple of people who have all enjoyed it as much as I did and also felt the need to read out loud to others the parts that they could relate to. Embarassingly true on many accounts, I've found a new author to add to my favourites. I have selected this book to review as part of a penguin bzzreport.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved this book! David Sedaris is truly one of the great American writers. While I admit I have a penchant for books that make me laugh out loud, there is so much more to his writing. The subtext and commentary on middle class life is rich and scathing. I cannot possibly recommend this book any higher.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Offensive Tripe I read part of this book for my bookclub and couldn't go on to finish it. I found Sedaris' stories (whether real or not) to be absolutely crude and offensive. Trailer trash family comes to mind. They are dysfunctional, crude, sometimes obscene, and heartless. I found no redeeming qualities in this book and lament the time wasted to even start it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Naked A hilarious read. Often the words, "It made me laugh out loud" are included as quotes in a book review, but this time it was true: it actually did make me laugh out loud. Sedaris writes in a way that would appeal to a broad sense of humour.
