Rated 5 out of 5 by from Refreshing Historical Romance written Brilliantly Love, love this book! Time travel, in love with two very different men during two very different time periods, burning at the stake, prison, and the highlands. This book is so well written. The author obviously did her research. It did take a few chapters before I was hooked. But once I got through the beginning, I could not put this book down. I am currently reading the second book, Dragonfly in Amber, and loving it too. I am so happy this is a series so that I can keep reading.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spectacular! A copy was provided by the publisher prior to the release date for review purposes. What was I thinking? Really what WAS I thinking all these years? Why has it taken me so long just to pick up this book?! The 20th anniversary edition of Outlander is gorgeous. Upon it's arrival I was mesmerized by it's blood red and summer gold cover. Not to mention the detail on it is phenomenal. Additionally, the 20th anniversary edition comes equipped with a new map, a new essay, an attached ribbon bookmark, and a bonus CD featuring 4 songs from the musical. The bonus CD was absolutely incredible. I began listening to it before reading the novel, during, and after. I'm in love and the idea was great to include it. It added quite a bit of excitement to the experience and I can't help the overwhelming feeling to hug every single person who was featured on the CD. Their voices were exactly what I imagined from the characters. Details about the CD: Track 1: I am ready - Jamie Fraser (Allan Scott-Douglas) --My favorite of the four tracks. Track 2: Is tu fuil 'o mo chuislean - Gaelic chorus, Jamie, Claire (Cait & Annie Lennox/ Allan Scott-Douglas/Sue Roberston) Track 3: Why did I marry a Fraser - Jamie, Clare, Jenny & Ian Murray (Allan Scott-Douglas, Sue Robertson/ Michelle Bruce/ Kevin Walsh) Track 4: Claire's message - Claire & Dougal MacKenzie (Sue Robertson/Kevin Walsh) Now onto Outlander. Nothing I say will ever properly express how much I loved Outlander. The story was amazing. Time travel, adventures in the Highlands, fighting, blood and who could forget about the romance? Diana's characters were wonderfully described, detailed and realistic. I couldn't help feeling that I knew them on a personal level when reaching the end of the novel. There is no doubt that Diana Gabaldon is a very witty writer, her humor shining through when her characters interacted with each other. I was also happy to see that the story line was very unpredictable. "What's going to happen to Jamie and Claire in the next chapter?" Who knows?! Very exciting indeed. Though Outlander is a hefty 600 pages, and took me quite a few days to finish, I couldn't help by moan in sadness that it had ended. There is no doubt in my mind that Outlander has turned me into a fan and I will definitely me reading further into Diana's Outlander series.

Read from the Book

Jamie made a fire in a sheltered spot, and sat down next to it. The rain had eased to a faint drizzle that misted the air and spangled my eyelashes with rainbows when I looked at the flames. He sat staring into the fire for a long time. Finally he looked up at me, hands clasped around his knees. "I said before that I''d not ask ye things ye had no wish to tell me. And I''d not ask ye now; but I must know, for your safety as well as mine." He paused, hesitating. "Claire, if you''ve never been honest wi'' me, be so now, for I must know the truth. Claire, are ye a witch?" I gaped at him. "A witch? You — you can really ask that?" I thought he must be joking. He wasn''t. He took me by the shoulders and gripped me hard, staring into my eyes as though willing me to answer him. "I must ask it, Claire! And you must tell me!" "And if I were?" I asked through dry lips. "If you had thought I were a witch? Would you still have fought for me?" "I would have gone to the stake with you!" he said violently. "And to hell beyond, if I must. But may the Lord Jesus have mercy on my soul and on yours, tell me the truth!" The strain of it all caught up with me. I tore myself out of his grasp and ran across the clearing. Not far, only to the edge of the trees; I could not bear the exposure of the open space. I clutched a tree; put my arms around it and dug my fingers hard into the bark, pressed my face to it and shrieked with hysterical laughter. Jamie''s face, white and shocked, loomed up on
