A passionate, sweeping novel of a love that transcends time.

When twenty-something Wall Street analyst Kate Wilson attracts the notice of the legendary Julian Laurence at a business meeting, no one’s more surprised than she is. Julian’s relentless energy and his extraordinary intellect electrify her, but she’s baffled by his sudden interest. Why would this handsome British billionaire—Manhattan’s most eligible bachelor—pursue a pretty but bookish young banker who hasn’t had a boyfriend since college?

The answer is beyond imagining . . . at least at first. Kate and Julian’s story may have begun not in the moneyed world of twenty-first-century Manhattan but in France during World War I, when a mysterious American woman emerged from the shadows of the Western Front to save the life of Captain Julian Laurence Ashford, a celebrated war poet and infantry officer.

Now, in modern-day New York, Kate and Julian must protect themselves from the secrets of the past, and trust in a true love that transcends time and space.

Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful romance I had read and thoroughly enjoyed Beatriz Williams other novel, "A hundred summers" so I was keen to read Overseas. Loved it! I'm adding this author to my 'must-read' list. This was just a beautiful love story. Kate is a completely modern wall street up-and-comer, independent and intelligent. Julian is an old fashioned wall street billionaire, pining for Kate. The time-travel aspect was well told, flashing between Amiens, France in 1916 and NYC in 2008. We piece together the story back and forth in time and place ~ and while I needed to suspend reality a tad to follow along ~ I was happy to do so! The romance is sweeping, Julian is prince charming (with a few flaws) and Kate is at once carried away, and similarly grounded in reality. While the ending wrapped up a bit too conveniently, I didn't really care. I just loved the way the story unfolded, loved the characters and their relationship and thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good cottage read The Good Stuff •Wasn't my thing -- not a big fan of time travel or contemporary romance so its hard to give this a fair review •Fast paced and a good twist on the time travel plot •Lots of romance and sweet declarations of love - again not my thing but if you like that sort of thing pick this up •Happy Ending •Author has a nice way with words which kept me reading eventhough the storyline didn't do it for me •Would be good cottage read romance with some mystery and intrigue The Not So Good Stuff •Story jumps around so much I found myself lost with not real connection to the couple •Found hero a little too good to be true •Time travel books always give me a headache as I spend way too much time going -- that makes no sense - Sorry Miss Williams its not you its me •Everything happens way too quickly for this jaded reader Favorite Quotes/Passages "Sorry," I said. "My mom doesn't leave until Sunday morning." "Then she can join us." I snorted. "Julian, honestly, I don't even think Dante could have imagined anything worse than that idea. Try again." "Well," he told my cleavage, slowly." {via e-mail} Julian: Foxhunting. Me: Seriously? Julian: Yes. Me: You murderer. The poor fox. Julian: The fox is a rural menance. You modern city-dwellers have the most idiotic romantic notions about wildlife. Who Should/Shouldn't Win •If you are a fan of contemporary romance with a time travel twist you will enjoy this 3 Dewey's I received this from Penguin in exchange for an honest review

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An old-fashioned love story Extremely sentimental, slightly predictable with often unbelievable plot turns and borderline cliche characters, but I couldn't help but LOVE it. It's escapist, fantasy fluff and unashamedly romantic. After being disappointed by many so-called "love-stories" recently with unsympathetic leads and amateurish writing, I was relieved to find this wasn't the case here. Julian, as the romantic hero, is almost too perfect to believe (God-like good looks! Billionaire! War hero! Poet!) and the main characters get together a little too quickly for my taste. This almost put me off but I found myself rooting for him and Kate to be together, despite everything. I was also pleasantly surprised by Kate's take-charge attitude and liked that the author didn't excuse Julian's overprotective tendencies as "romantic." She actually confronted him about it. By going back and forth between 1916 and 2008, we know in general what will happen but it was exciting putting all the pieces together. I only wish the WWI aspect of the book had played a larger role. The chapters taking place in the present were far more interesting and I'm a complete Edwardian fanatic, which is what interested me in the first place. If you loved Outlander, the Time Traveler's Wife or are just looking for a light, old-fashioned romance, I highly recommend this.

About the Book

When twentysomething Wall Street analyst Kate Wilson attracts the notice of a legendary, handsome British billionaire, her answer to his pursuit is beyond imagining. Their story may have begun not in the 21st century but in France during World War I.

Read from the Book

I knew it was a dream, a nightmare, but still I couldn’t break free into consciousness. I kicked upward toward the surface, thrusting with all my might, until my lungs burst with a scream that wouldn’t release. Someone called to me: distant, urgent. And then I emerged, sweating, with Julian’s arms around me and his voice murmuring in my ear. “Sweetheart, wake up. Kate, it’s all right.” I turned blindly into his chest. “You’re here,” I said, between heaving gasps of air. “You’re still here.” “Of course I’m here. Shh. Of course I’m here.” He held me against his body, enfolding me with himself, and gradually the panic died down. I concentrated on breathing slowly, on grasping at the solid physical details around me, anchoring me to reality: the sheets, the faint glow from the nightlight, the cool air entering my nose. Julian’s skin pressed into mine. “Better?” he asked, after a minute. “Yes,” I said. A low chuckle rumbled from his throat. “Your first nightmare already. Is it all so very dreadful?” I snorted into his chest. “Terrible. A severe case of endorphin overload. I may not live through the night.” “Rubbish,” he said. “ My endorphins are jolly well singing in my ears, and I’m not moaning on about it.” “Oh, I don’t know.” I snaked my hand along his side and administered a sharp t
