To survive, they must seize the oil in the Persian Gulf; to seize the oil, they must find a way to keep NATO from retaliating. And they find it: Red Storm, an audacious, four-month master plan of elaborate diplomatic trickery and crash military buildup designed to keep the West off balance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Set aside some time for this one. I read this book 10 or 12 years ago and just re-read it for the second time over Christmas. This is EASILY Tom Clancy's greatest novel. Epic is the only way to describe this book. I'd always wished they would do a movie, but even 3 hours couldn't do this book justice. A trilogy of three hour movies MAYBE. Don't think about it, just buy it and enjoy a fantasic read that you won't be able to put down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Red Storm Rising I've read most of the Tom Clancy fictions, and this is my favourite one by far. He paints a plausible scenario for WWIII, even if it sounds a bit far-fetched in today's post-Cold War era. I particularly like the way he hops around from battle theatre to battle theatre. His writing style makes you eager to read just one more page or two . If you like military thrillers, then you've probably already read this book, and probably more than once. If not, then don't start it until you've got a lot of free time on your hands, because you won't be able to put it down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Red Storm Rising The book was a wonderful thriller, everyone should get the chance to read it. It puts you right in the action, a well written book you won't want to miss. It will be a best seller for years to come. Tom Clancy is an excellant author, if you love this book, take I dive into Rainbow Six, you won't want to miss it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Astounding! This book is an excellent example of the time and work Tom Clancy puts into his novels. Unlike other novels which tend to center around one character (many books center around Jack Ryan) and other authors novels about war, Clancy is able to show you the real people involved in the war, and the weapons and tactics used by the American military. It shows you a plausible scenario for WW3, using conventional weapons. This is the best book I've ever read, and shows us the war through the eyes of the people fighting it, not politics in Washington.
