Safe Haven is rated 4.8462 out of 5 by 13.
When a mysterious young woman named Katie appears in the small North Carolina town of Southport, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past. Beautiful yet self-effacing, Katie seems determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships: one with Alex, a widowed store owner with a kind heart and two young children; and another with her plainspoken single neighbor, Jo. Despite her reservations, Katie slowly begins to let down her guard, putting down roots in the close-knit community and becoming increasingly attached to Alex and his family.

But even as Katie begins to fall in love, she struggles with the dark secret that still haunts and terrifies her . . . a past that set her on a fearful, shattering journey across the country, to the sheltered oasis of Southport. With Jo's empathic and stubborn support, Katie eventually realizes that she must choose between a life of transient safety and one of riskier rewards . . . and that in the darkest hour, love is the only true safe haven.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Sparks Novel. EVER. I read this book long before the movie came out and absolutely loved it! Still do. Normally not a huge reader but with Safe Haven, I could not put it down. I pulled an all nighter the first time I read it, it was so good! I was enraged that the movie didn't do this book any justice at all.. but that's no surprise!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved It!! This was one of the best books i have ever read. I wanted to read it before i watched the movie and Im glad i did. I have read many books by nicholas sparks, the notebook, the last song, dear john and more but this was particularly interesting with a hint of suspence and some tears of sadness of coarse. Great book you will enjoy reading chapters at a time, wish it was longer, did not want to stop reading

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Read I read this book as I usually do before one of Nicholas Spark's books hits the big screen, I didn't know what it was about going into it I only knew that I had to read it and odds are I was going to enjoy it, seeing as I have yet to read a Sparks novel I didn't enjoy. I was NOT disappointed, right from the get-go I was hooked this is one of those books that you pick up and don't end up putting it down until you've finished. The story is great and quickly paced, the characters are well thought out, I also found that this book handled the subject of domestic violence and abuse very well. And while I do generally find his books somewhat predictable (part of what I like about them) the ending on this one surprised me, although in hindsight I should have seen the twist coming. If you're looking for a quick easy ready and are a Nicholas Sparks fan you won't be diappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MUST READ! I have to say this book is one of the BEST books I have read in a long time. It's so addicting! I started reading it on Monday and finished it on Wednesday! I couldn't put the book down. I am now counting down for the movie to come out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best of Sparks I have only read a few or three Nicholas Sparks novels, but this is the best one of the bunch. Admittedly, I read this because it is being released as a movie shortly, with Josh Duhamel, and I couldn't resist (blush)! But the story moved quickly, was really interesting as it jumped between Katie's story and Kevin's. The twisty ending all reviewers write about was both good and bad. I was very pleased with the way the story resolved, and the closing words, but I could have done without the twisty part, which I didn't think lent anything to the story. In all, a recommended read from Sparks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from captivating This was my first Nicholas Sparks novel and i am currently on my fifth! He does not only write about love but about the characters emotions in-dept. My heart was racing fast through out this whole book. Oh wow and the ending was truly a huge twist, i would never have guessed it. I still remain shocked. I am very thrilled that this book has been turned into a movie.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sparks is never a disappointment In the same fashion as The Guardian, Sparks submersed his readers in all the emotional ups and downs of his characters. A wonderful summer read that could be read over and over again. Enjoy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of his best I have read most of Nicholas Sparks' novels and this one is definetaly one of my favorites. Not quite as typical as some of his others, ending was a bit predictable - but keeps you interested from start to finish. If you read The Guardian of A Bend in the Road and enjoyed them, then you will absolutely enjoy this one!

About the Author

Nicholas Sparks, December 31, 1965 - Nicholas Sparks was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on New Year's Eve, about eighty minutes prior to 1966. As a child, he lived in Minnesota, Los Angeles, and Grand Island, Nebraska, finally settling in Fair Oaks, California at the age of eight. His father was a professor and his mother was a homemaker. He lived in Fair Oaks through high school, graduated valedictorian in 1984, and received a full track scholarship to the University of Notre Dame. After breaking the Notre Dame school record as part of a relay team in 1985 while a freshman (a record which still stands), he was injured and spent the summer recovering. During that summer, he wrote his first novel, "The Passing," but he never had it published. He majored in Business Finance and graduated with high honors in 1988. In 1989 he wrote his second novel, "The Royal Murders," which was also never published, after being rejected by publishers. Sparks decided to concentrate on another career. He'd been rejected by publishers and law schools alike, and went through a number of short-term jobs. Among these were appraising real estate, buying and restoring houses, waiting tables, selling dental products by phone and finally deciding to start his own business manufacturing orthopedic products. Sparks' self-employment didn't last long before he found himself in piles of debt. During this time, he wrote yet another book, "Wokini" with Billy Mills, a long-time friend and Olympic Gold Medalist. It was
