About the Author
Stuart Woods was born on January 9, 1938 in Manchester, Georgia. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in Sociology. Woods worked in the advertising business and eventually wrote two non-fiction books before being given an advance to write a novel he had been pondering for nearly a decade.Woods' first novel, Chiefs, was published in March 1981. The story was inspired by a police chief's badge Woods had found in his grandmother's home. The badge was stained with blood and pockmarked by buckshot. It had belonged to his grandfather, who died wearing it 10 years before Mr. Woods was born. Chiefs won an Edgar Award and was made into a TV miniseries starring Charlton Heston. Woods has published a number of books since. Woods has published forty-one novels in a twenty-eight year career, and has now had twenty-six consecutive New York Times best sellers.
