Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heartwarming and hilarious! Gordon Korman is always great, but this one was extra special to me. With all the humor of his past books but an extra measure of sweetness, this is the story of a boy who does not try to conform-for-the-sake-of-conforming to the world into which he is unceremoniously flung- instead, he shines the light of what he truly knows and is a fine example to everyone he meets. This story is about the ability of people to learn, adapt and live together, and how just one person really can make a difference. Even in a place as potentially harsh, close-minded and unforgiving as a high school. Read it- you'll laugh, cry and thoroughly love this story.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Korman writes another hit! I really liked this book. Capricorn Anderson, Cap, lives in a commune with his grandmother Rain. While it once was a going concern, it is now down to just the two of them. When Rain falls out of a tree and breaks her hip, Cap ends up entering society and going to a school instead of being homeschooled. He has never used a phone or watched tv. He has never spent money or worn sneakers. He stands out just a bit!! He gets elected Student Body President - the cool kids nominate the biggest loser in the school just to watch him go insane. But Cap doesn't go crazy - he takes everything thrown at him and more. And some of these kids start to see what is so special about Cap. This book changes perspective every chapter. So we see things through Cap's eyes, and lots of other students. It is a funny book and the Gordon Korman sense of humor shines through. It is listed 9 -12 years but teenage boys would like it too.
