From the Publisher

First-person account of the extraordinary life of America''s greatest civil rights leader. It begins with his boyhood as the son of a preacher, his education as a minister, his ascendancy as a leader of civil rights, & his complex relationships with leading political & social figures of the day.

About the Author

Dr. Carson was born in Buffalo, New York. His wife, Susan Ann Carson, is managing editor of the King Papers Project. The Carsons, who live in Palo Alto, have two grown children.

From Our Editors

An exhilarating and forceful memoir of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning civil rights leader, The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr. is a masterpiece of an autobiography. King scholar Clayborne Carson drew on Stanford University's vast archives, including Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s until now unpublished writings, audio and video recordings, interviews, and personal correspondence, to create a first-person account of King's exceptional life. The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr. takes readers from King's boyhood as the son of a preacher and his training as a minister, to his role in the Montgomery bus boycott and his incredible role in the civil right movement.
