About the Author

John Griffith "Jack" London (1876–1916) is an American author, journalist, and social activist. Some of his most famous works include The Call of the Wild and White Fang, as well as the short stories "To Build a Fire", "An Odyssey of the North", and "Love of Life".

From Our Editors

This Penguin Classic volume collects Jack London's finest famous Northern tales, including The Call of the Wild, a masterpiece about a dog learning to survive in the wilderness. Other unforgettable stories include Batard, Love of Life and White Fang, the tale of a wild dog adapting to man's world. James Dickey's introduction to The Call of the Wild, White Fang, and Other Stories explores the author's intense personal and literary identification with the wolf-dog as symbol. Biographer and editor, Andrew Sinclair briefly describes London's experiences as desperado, sailor, socialist, adventurer and accomplished author.
