Before there was a Mysterious Benedict Society, there was simply a boy named Nicholas Benedict. Meet the boy who started it all....

Nine-year-old Nicholas Benedict has more problems than most children his age. Not only is he an orphan with an unfortunate nose, but also he has narcolepsy, a condition that gives him terrible nightmares and makes him fall asleep at the worst possible moments. Now he's sent to a new orphanage, where he encounters vicious bullies, selfish adults, strange circumstances -- and a mystery that could change his life forever. Luckily, he has one important thing in his favor: He's a genius.

On his quest to solve the mystery, Nicholas finds enemies around every corner, but also friends in unexpected places -- and discovers along the way that the greatest puzzle of all is himself.

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Especially Extraordinary! The Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict was an overall, well, extraordinary book! It had so many exceptional details and mysteries to solve. I absolutely loved it because it had amazing detail, mystery after mystery, and you really got to know the Nicholas Benedict that you may have been curious about while reading the series before. Although some may argue that it went on and didn’t get to the point, I found that part mysterious. Buying your own copy would be money well spent, and a great gift, too. Small details written in such description made the book come alive! There was a great amount of foreshadowing, making readers think about little things that ended up making a big difference in the end, such as the man who needed a watchdog, or people who didn’t have a wide range of food. You had to pay attention to these things to understand the book, which may have been difficult, but once you did, it was worth it. Another reason this astonishing book was a success was that it was full of mystery! every time young ‘Nick’ had thought he solved a perplexing dilemma, the poor boy ended up receiving more to solve! For instance, when he arrived at the observatory—which he thought held the missing Rothschild inheritance— he found that there was nothing to see, and then he met a mysterious girl whom he was determined to figure out. So many amazing things about this book was already said, yet, there is more! Since this was a prequel to another great series, The Mysterious Benedict Society, it allowed you to get to know the Nicholas Benedict you’ve been wondering about. This book explains a great deal of questions that you might have been thinking to yourself, such as where did Nicholas grow up?, how did he become a genius?, and why did he decide to help others in this way? Find answers to your questions about Nicholas, in this stupendous book. Some people may argue that it went on, and didn’t get to the point, such as when Nicholas observed the Stonetown library’s name, Alexandria. However, in my opinion, it was what gave the book mystery. It foreshadowed events that were important. If you read carefully, and enjoyed the book, you could easily solve the mystery along with Nicholas, and put the puzzle pieces together, in the end. You should not hesitate a moment longer to purchase a copy of Nicholas Benedict's Extraordinary Education, if you not have already. Mysteries are found between every page of this book, just waiting for you to solve them.
