The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

One Thursday lunchtime the Earth is unexpectedly demolished to make way for a new hyperspace bypass. For Arthur Dent, who has only just had his house demolished that morning, this seems already to be more than he can cope with. Sadly, however, the weekend has only just begun, and the galaxy is a very strange and startling place.

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

Facing annihilation at the hands of the warlike Vogons is a curious time to have a cosmically displaced Arthur Dent and his curious comrades in arms as they hurtle through space powered by pure improbability - and desperately in search of a place to eat.

Life, The Universe and Everything

The unhappy inhabitants of the planet Krikkit are sick of looking at the night sky above their heads - so they plan to destroy it. The universe, that is. Now only five individuals stand between the killer robots of Krikkit and their goals of annihilation...

So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish

Left at the end of LIFE, THE UNIVERSE AND EVERYTHING with the address for God's Final Message To His Creation, Arthur Dent let this crucial information slip his mind.

Mostly Harmless

It's not just a trilogy any more. In the fifth book of this popular series, Arthur Dent makes the terrible mistake of starting to enjoy life, and immediately all hell breaks loose. In short, it's up to him to save the world from total multi-dimensional obliteration, the Guide from a hostile alien takeover, and the daughter he never knew he had, from herself. A tall order, to say the least. And one he's really not up to, thank you very much.

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Silly and Insightful Douglas Adams Trilogy in Five Parts is one of the great modern classics of its own right. The books follow the adventures of Earthling Arthur Dent after his home planet is destroyed to make way for a hyperspace bypass and hilarity ensues. A necessary addition to the library of any pop culture enthusiast.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A true classic! Curl up with a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster and forget about the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (If you can't see it, then it can't see you). This timeless classic is filled with so much wit and charm it practically spills off the pages the moment you open the cover. All five books in the trilogy are included in this box set, which brings you to every corner of the galaxy and even to a quaint little restaurant at the end of the universe. What a great value!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Its wonderfully witty! What can I say that hasn't already been said by so many others. I fell in love with this series when I was young and have read it probably 20 or so times. Whenever I am bored or slightly bleary in this current plane of existence, I start reading it again, even though I can quote the entire epic almost word for word (at least the stupendously amazingly brilliant part, the rest of the book is just amazingly the brilliant.) I have a special love for the Third in the trilogy of four in five parts (wrap your head around that one), which is a modified version of Douglas Adams' undeveloped "Doctor Who and the Krikkitmen" film, would have loved to see what would have been different with the The Doctor, but I cherish all the hours spent laughing out loud in a quiet room, just my trilogy-of-four-in-five-parts and I.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of a kind! Absolutely amazing! From the first page to the last, you'll be sent rolling with laughter by Adam's prize winning tales of a mostly harmless Earthling, his alien friend, Ford, and Ford's semi-cousin, the freewheeling president of the galaxy. You encounter Vogons (gross, disgusting, officious creatures that evolution simply gave up on), Dentrassi (best cooks in the universe and don't give a wet slap about anything else), and even a Hooloovoo or two. So sit back and buckle-up for a unforgettable ride.

About the Author

Douglas Adams created all the various and contradictory manifestations of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy: radio, novels, TV, computer game, stage adaptations, comic book, and bath towel. He lectured and broadcast around the world and was a patron of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund and Save the Rhino International. Douglas Adams was born in Cambridge, UK and lived with his wife and daughter in Islington, London, before moving to Santa Barbara, California, where he died suddenly in 2001. After Douglas died the movie of Hitchhiker moved out of development hell into the clear uplands of production, using much of Douglas'' original script and ideas. Douglas shares the writing credit for the movie with Karey Kirkpatrick.
