Rated 5 out of 5 by from An essential book to have for wine enthusiasts and professionals I purchased this book as a prerequisite for a wine course I took and I found it surprisingly captivating. It has virtually everything one would want to find about wine and related topics. Easy to read even for a beginner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The one truly indespensible wine reference Remarkable for its depth of information. If it is not in here, you do not need to know it. Most importantly, the Oxford Campanion to Wine is virtually without fault. Only a select few wine books can make a similar claim. Very impressive!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A MUST for Every Wine Library I can’t think of a more complete and well-written wine reference book than Jancis Robinson’s Oxford Companion to Wine. It’s a must for every wine library and includes information about all of the world’s wine regions, grapes, styles and terms. Pair this with wines from one of the fastest growing new wine regions profiled in the book, South Africa: 2004 Durbanville Hills Shiraz Durbanville ($14) and 2002 Cathedral Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon ($17).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential for the Wine Lover Finally, an exhaustive book for the wine lover (and snobs, too, I guess).. I just got it and have been poring over this treasure-trove. It appears to have almost everything. Along with Hugh Johnson's latest Pocket Wine book, and being on Vintage's mailing list, one is pretty-well covered with this fine reference work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A MUST buy for wine lovers! I first saw the text of this book at an online wine site, and immediately coveted the hardcopy version. My husband bought it for me, as a pleasant surprise, and I wasn't disappointed. As wonderful as the text alone is, the drawings, maps and photographs add the icing to the cake. I was so impressed by the quality of this book that I immediately ordered another copy for my sister (a wine lover). Anyone who likes wine and wants to know more about it would LOVE this book.

Editorial Reviews

''''The words "magisterial", "magnificent", and "indispensable", used more than once in a lifetime, begin to lose their potency, but both books deserve all these epithets and more.'' The Guardian, 3.12.99 (The other book was OC Food)
