After a year spent trying to prevent a catastropic war among the Greek gods, Percy Jackson finds his seventh-grade school year unnervingly quiet. His biggest problem is dealing with his new friend, Tyson--a six-foot-three, mentally challenged homeless kid who follows Percy everywhere, making it hard for Percy to have any "normal" friends.

But things don''t stay quiet for long. Percy soon discovers there is trouble at Camp Half-Blood: The magical borders which protect Half-Blood Hill have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and the only safe haven for demigods is on the verge of being overrun by mythological monsters. To save the camp, Percy needs the help of his best friend, Grover, who has been taken prisoner by the Cyclops Polyphemus on an island somewhere in the Sea of Monsters--the dangerous waters Greek heroes have sailed for millenia--only today, the Sea of Monsters goes by a new name...the Bermuda Triangle.

Now Percy and his friends--Grover, Annabeth, and Tyson--must retrieve the Golden Fleece from the Island of the Cyclopes by the end of the summer or Camp Half-Blood will be destroyed. But first, Percy will learn a stunning new secret about his family--one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon''s son is an honor or simply a cruel joke.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "Absolutely Great" This is a really great story by Rick Riordan. The novel is a thrilling story that actually made me read into the night. I finished it in a week, but I HAD to pick up book 3 because I just couldn't get enough of the books. Listen, believe it or not, but this is actually way better then Harry Potter. Rick Riordan and his chilling novel about mythology made everything absolutely great. TheBookReviewer

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 2nd book in series - much better Camp Half-Bloods are in danger, but there are things around him (monsters and secrets) that have to present themselves. Mission Impossible: get the Gold Fleece, but Percy and his friends will encounter some crazy challenges and old friends (or fren-emies). Though made for a good light afternoon read with adventure and Greek mythology lesson. Enjoyed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great book! My boys and I are really enjoying this series and found that this book was almost (but not quite) as good as the last! The ending of this book will leave you guessing about the future of the Olympians and you will definitely want to read on!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty good! This book wasnt the best in the series but still it was pretty good to my standards. Although the quest wasnt the most adventurous, it still was exciting. It was unpredictable so it just made you read more. It ended in a HUGE cliffhanger, and so you are left DYING to read the next book!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great if you're 8... So given what this book is I would say it's probably a great read if you're a grade five student. If however you're almost 30 and looking for a series of books to replace that gaping hole left in your heart where Harry Potter used to be, than prepare to be disappointed. There's not much depth in character development, and the writing has a childish feel to it, I just don't really feel that it's the kind of book that both children and adults can pick up and be enthralled by (ie. not like HP or Chronicles of Narnia) I found the book entertaining but definitely not a page turner. I wouldn't recommend it (unless you're 8 and then go nuts) and I wouldn't re-read it, and I won't buy the 3rd book in the series. The book basically feels like it's only written for the author to cash in, not because he cares about putting out good work. And one thing that really turned me off, Rick Riordan thought it would be funny to start referring to some cannibalistic monsters in the book as Canadians, not cool. So yeah Rick Riordan and his cash grab books will be staying off of my shelves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even better... Another cute, fast pace adventure that was even better than the first book. This book jumped right into the adventure since the background was already established and Riordan didn’t feel the need to recap everything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots Of Adventure This is the first book I've read in this series and I'm sure that I will read the rest. Rick Riordan did an amazing adventure story that I really enjoyed reading. Not much for fantasy books but this one really had me hooked.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Charming Twist i was introduced to this book simply by the preview of the movie Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the lightning thief. having read the first book i had to read the second book! i didn't know what to expect from this novel but was pleasantly surprised by the story. it was a constant twist and kept the reader engaged. Rick Riordan has described the characters emotions so well that you feel empathetic for him as he struggles throughout the book. yet he didn't take away from the story. i found it was highly enjoyable and very appropriate for a younger audience, there where certain parts that i felt the author was trying to connect to his older audience without making it inappropriate. Overall i would suggest this book to anyone who loves Greek mythology, seeing that it is centered around Greek gods. even though i found some of the information incorrect i still enjoyed the history that was put into this novel/ series. it truly is a one of a kind story and very easy to read, without being short of detail.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Herculean Tale! In the second book of the Percy Jackson series we're treated to a few new faces, some hideous, but all are fantastic! Grover is off in his search of Pan, God of the Wild, Percy is managing to attend another new school having managed to spare himself and his friends from the wrath of the Gods in the first book. He's taking his new lease on life in stride, keeping his eyes out for the monsters with his trusty Riptide at his side. Things seem to be going well, Percy think he might actually last the whole school year without being expelled, and he even has a new school chum, a tall, scraggly homeless kid by the name of Tyson. Tyson's not so very bright but he's got a heart of gold and the innocence of a toddler. Not to mention he thinks the world of Percy! Now if being attacked by his old Math teacher who turned out to be a Fury from the Underworld wasn't bad enough, things take another twist when Percy's in gym class for a friendly game of dodgeball and the opposing side turns out to be a gang carnivorous monsters! If that wasn't bad enough, Percy's getting strange dreams where Grover's in trouble! Trapped on an island in the middle of Bermuda Triangle. If Percy doesn't save him quickly Grover's out to lunch and he'll be the main course! If it's not one thing, it's another for Percy Jackson. He can't seem to catch a break and the Gods don't seem like their going to throw him any bones in the near future. It's another mythical adventure for our young friend, high flying and action packed, you won't want to miss this crazy ride of uber fun!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Book of The Century Reviewed by Grade 5 student Ben M. This book is extremely suited for all ages. It includes many Greek myths. It caught my attention just by the style of the text. I've read many of Rick Riordan's other novels and this is one of the best. Many books include humour or battles or mysteries: this book has all of that and more. While I was reading it I recognized many Greek myths. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a good read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous follow-up to The Lightning Thief! As Percy Jackson's adventures in the world of Greek mythology continues, author Rick Riordan's suave writing expertly cranks the adrenaline up a notch. In The Sea of Monsters, Percy, Annabeth, and his new Cyclop friend, Tyson, set off on a forbidden quest to save Grover, and the entire Camp Half-Blood Hill. Their mission: to find the Golden Fleece, which will heal Thalia's legendary tree that protects the camp. What they're up against: Kronos, the titan god; Luke, the all-time traitor and thwarter; and lots and lots of evil magical forces! The Sea of Monsters is a fabulous follow-up to Riordan's first, The Lightning Thief, and this book is sure to get your heart pumping. I would recommend any young fantasy lovers who haven't yet started this series to get started! And anyone who's read The Lightning Thief, you definitely won't want to miss The Sea of Monsters, full of adventure, magic, and lots of surprising twists! Such a captivating book can earn no less than 5 out of 5 stars!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you don't read this, you're insane! I loved this book and I love it so much that I have now read it approximately five times. My friends all really like the book too and they all keep bugging me to lend it to them. This book, like The Lightning Thief, is good if you like fantasy or mythology. I found out about the first book by having to read it in language for novel study. After reading it, I had to read more. So I bought this one. Anyway, I know you'll love it and read my reviews for the other two books!
