HARPERCOLLINS PUBLISHERS | December 13, 2012 | Mass Market Paperbound

The Secret Diaries Of Miss Miranda Cheever is rated 5 out of 5 by 2.

2 March 1810 . . . Today, I fell in love.

At the age of ten, Miranda Cheever showed no signs of Great Beauty. And even at ten, Miranda learned to accept the expectations society held for her-until the afternoon when Nigel Bevelstoke, the handsome and dashing Viscount Turner, solemnly kissed her hand and promised her that one day she would grow into herself, that one day she would be as beautiful as she already was smart. And even at ten, Miranda knew she would love him forever.

But the years that followed were as cruel to Turner as they were kind to Miranda. She is as intriguing as the viscount boldly predicted on that memorable day-while he is a lonely, bitter man, crushed by a devastating loss. But Miranda has never forgotten the truth she set down on paper all those years earlier-and she will not allow the love that is her destiny to slip lightly through her fingers . . .

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inspring Retelling of Austen's Pride and Prejudice The character's that appeared in the novel were all charming and mysterious. This romantic retelling of pride and prejudice is a beautiful work. Love at first sight... Miranda Cheevy had fallen in love with her best friend's elder brother when she was merely ten. Brokenhearted... Nigel Bevelstoke, better known as Turner, fell in love and was cheated and betrayed by her. Hapily Ever After? Years has passed now; Miranda grew up and Turner grew doleful. But will Turner ever see Miranda clearly or will Miranda have to live without her heart?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderfully Witty!! I quite enjoyed this book. If you want a quick and light hearted "fun"-tastic read then I highly recommend this book. The banter between Turner and Miranda was quick and witty. Some scenes in the story were quite funny and comical. Julia Quinn is at her best, and I enjoyed every single page in the book.

About the Author

Julia Quinn is the pseudonym used by Julie Pottinger (born Julie Cotler in 1970), a best-selling American historical romance author. Pottinger grew up in the New England and California. She has appeared on the New York Times Bestseller List nine times. Pottinger went to Harvard and majored in Art History. After getting this degree, she decided that she wanted to be a doctor, so she had to complete two more years of college to fulfill her science credits. While studying science, she drafted two romance novels. A few weeks after she was accepted to medical school, she discovered that her first two novels, Splendid and Dancing At Midnight, had been sold at auction, so she postponed medical school for two years while she wrote two more novels. By the time Pottinger finally entered Yale medical school, three of her books had been published. After only a few short months of studying medicine, however, she left medical school and devoted herself full-time to her writing. Pottinger lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, Paul Pottinger. She was the recipient of the Romance Writers of America RITA Award in 2007 for "On the Way to the Wedding" and in 2008 for "The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever".
