The Stowaways aren''t like the other Weedle mice. They are inventive and curious, they go on adventures, and they are much too clever for their own good. In fact, everyone knows that Grampa Stowaway was killed in a trap on one of his adventures. So, who would want to associate with a family like that? There''s something else about the Stowaways. They keep secrets. Rory has made friends with a bird, their natural enemy; and his twin brother Morgan dreams of sailing away. But Gran has the biggest secret of all - and Rory has discovered what it is. If Rory and Gran act on their suspicions, will they be heading for disaster? Or will it be the greatest Stowaway adventure of all?

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from loved it! Just finished this novel on the weekend and I love everything about it, from the retro book cover and red satin ribbon to how is so neatly tucks into my hands. This book is brand new but if feels like a classic. The Stowaways are an adventurous mouse family and I love how everything is familiar but in miniature. Ie, a button becomes the wheel of a bike, a thimble is a pail. I loaned this to a friend who has boys aged 3 and 5. Although this novel is for older kids I can see that it would appeal to all ages because it is a fantasy based on a known world. Even her 3 year old will "get" a mouse using common our household objects in unexpected ways. This novel is a page-turner and a keeper.

About the Author

Dean Griffiths was a self-taught comic book artist and computer graphics designer before he discovered picture books more than eighteen years ago. Since then, he has illustrated more than twenty-five titles and has garnered a number of awards, including the Christie Harris Illustrated Children''s Book Prize for Maggie Can''t Wait and the Chocolate Lily Award for Ballerinas Don''t Wear Glasses. Dean lives in Duncan, British Columbia, with his daughter.

Meghan Marentette has always loved tiny things. Nicknamed "Meghan Mouse" as a child, she spent hours collecting bits and pieces to build miniature worlds for her toys. Later, having graduated from Dalhousie University, she became a costume designer for film and television. Her favourite assignment came in 2004 when she was hired to make tiny costumes for stop-motion animation puppets. The job reignited Meghan''s childhood passion, and she was soon busy conceiving the miniature world of The Stowaways. Meghan lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
