The Time Of My Life: .

by Patrick Swayze

Simon & Schuster | September 29, 2009 | Hardcover

The Time Of My Life: . is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 10.
In a career spanning more than thirty years, Patrick Swayze has made a name for himself on the stage, the screen, and television. Known for his versatility, passion and fearlessness, he''s become one of our most beloved actors.

But in February 2008, Patrick announced he had been diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. Always a fighter, he refused to let the disease bring him to his knees, and his bravery has inspired both his legion of fans and cancer patients everywhere. Yet this memoir, written with wisdom and heart, recounts much more than his bout with cancer. In vivid detail, Patrick describes his Texas upbringing, his personal struggles, his rise to fame with North and South, his commercial breakthroughs in Dirty Dancing and Ghost, and the soul mate who''s stood by his side through it all: his wife, writer and director Lisa Niemi.

A behind-the-scenes look at a Hollywood life and a remarkable love, this memoir is both entertainment and inspiration. Patrick and Lisa''s marriage is a journey of two lives intertwined and lived as one--throughout their years in Hollywood and at home on their working ranch outside Los Angeles, and culminating in the hope and wisdom they''ve imparted to all who know them. This book will open the door for families, individuals, and husbands and wives to grow, bond and discover entirely new levels of love and sharing, proving that life shouldn''t be lived as a series of endings, but rather as the beginning of greater strength and love.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inspiring I read this book after my wife, and became so inspired by what I read that I fell in love with the book. I felt so inspired by Patricks bravery and passion that he put into his life, and the courage, and the determination to fight right up to the last days of his life. To me Patrick was a great actor, and a wonderful dancer. The world lost a great person in Patrick that he will be unable to be replaced by anyone. Patrick Swayze will never be forgoten, but he will be turly, and sadly missied for every.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A wonderful read! What a couple! They were meant for each other. I enjoyed reading about them as a couple. I had never heard much about Lisa, only Patrick. My family and I were sorry to hear that he had succombed to his cancer...but he fought it to the end...he never let it get him down. Lisa will be strong because of his support here and beyond. My thoughts anyway.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Patrick Swayze, Lisa Niemi "Time of My Life" A wonderfully warm book of their life together. Patrick is blunt and honest about is character flaws. Can't wait to see Lisa's interview on Oprah.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Courageous This is no where near the typical type of books I like to read, but few other autobiographies have ever peaked my interest. I was surprised to learn that Patrick was an extremely self-conscious man. He tells us that being "Swayze" meant that you had to strive to be better, even when you were the best there was always room to be better. He tells stories of been roughed around by bullies as a child, how he just had to make Lisa fall in love with him, the almost ending of their 30+ year marriage, to of course his final battle with cancer. Their story was an incredible journey to be taken on. The ups of his striving career and his battles with depression. Their beautiful dancing ability and the problems with his knee that ended his dancing career. His falling in love with Lisa, their spontaneous wedding, to the almost divorce of their 30+ year marriage. His cheating death on more than one occasion before his diagnosis. I have to admit the courage that they showed through his battle with cancer, the "this things never gonna get me attitude" at the end of the book, made me cry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Story I loved this story very much. I am not much of a reader, but I read this entire book in a single day. I did not know very much about Patrick or Lisa, but I became interested in this story when I found out that Patrick and his wife have been married for 34years. I just got married this past June 12, (which also happens to be the same anniversary of Lisa and Patrick) and I found it very motivating to see a couple that got married young and have remained deeply in love after all these years. This book was not only an inspirational love story but an incredible story about a motivated and driven indivdual who achieved a lot in his short life. This book was exciting, funny, inspirational and heart-felt. By the end of the book I was crying my eyes out as I can not imagine what life might be like for Lisa now, but she is in my prayers... I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone, and I personally can not wait to read it again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very heartwarming ...but do yourself a favor. Never buy a book from Chapters online until a least 2 months after it's advertised. Price has dropped since I bought book a month ago, worse yet, it was a heck of a lot cheaper at Costco AND Amazon.ca

Rated 5 out of 5 by from INCREDIBLE !!!! I am not a novel reader, it usually takes me a year to read a novel, I read this book in one week ! that is how interesting it was... For some reason I had to buy this book , not only because I loved Patrick but I wanted to know more about Lisa too. Their unique love was just beyond what we all wish for in this life..I can tell you I never cried so much or laughed as I did when I read their journey together, It takes you beside Patrick and wishing things were different for he & Lisa but we don't get the choice of what we are dealt with in life...I truly miss him more now since I finished the book , he was such a rare gentleman and an incredible actor.. From the bottom of my heart " Thank-you" for this book Patrick & Lisa...

About the Book

In this timely and heartfelt memoir, film and television star Swayze and Lisa Niemi, his wife of 33 years, chronicle his remarkable life, career, and brave battle against pancreatic cancer.

Read from the Book

Prologue In late December 2007, life was looking pretty good. I had just wrapped shooting on the pilot of a new TV series, The Beast. My wife, Lisa, and I were enjoying a second honeymoon of sorts after a long, difficult period in which we had grown painfully apart. And I was feeling excited about new work, new directions, and the promise of the future. Lisa and I were planning to spend New Year''s Eve at our ranch in New Mexico, as we''d done for the past few years. But first, we stopped off in Aspen to visit a couple of friends. It was there that I got the first hint that something was wrong. I had been having some digestive trouble, mostly acid reflux and a kind of bloated feeling, for a few weeks. I''ve had a sensitive stomach my whole life, so I hadn''t thought much of it, but lately I just couldn''t shake the constant discomfort. I wasn''t hungry and felt sick whenever I did eat, but I''d always been pretty healthy, so I figured the feeling would pass eventually. In Aspen, we all raised glasses of champagne for a toast. I took a sip, and as the champagne began to course through my esophagus to my stomach, I nearly choked -- it burned like acid going down. It felt like I''d drunk lye, a sharp, searing pain that brought tears to my eyes. I''d never felt anything like it, but not wanting to ruin the festivities, I said nothing to Lisa. I was used to ignoring pain, so I just didn''t drink any more champagne that night, and didn''t think anything more about it. Three weeks l
