Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Suspenseful, a wonderful easy read! I could not put this book down! From the first page to the last it only got better. Both my husband and I loved it, which led us to read several others of Baldacci, but they were not as good. What would you do if you were told you were going to win a huge lottery? And then find out it was all rigged???

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Enjoyable & Unique Thriller LuAnn Tyler is a young mother in rural Georgia who is just scraping by. Her life is grim until she is offered the chance to drasitcally change her circumstances. She embraces the opportunity for a new life, but soon finds out it will not come without sacrifices. She is now tied to an extremely dangerous and exceptionally resourceful villain who will not let anything, or anyone, jeopradize his plans. Baldacci comes through again with an exciting and suspenseful novel that is hard to put down. I love where he went with LuAnn's character, making her a strong, capable, independant woman instead of the typical "damsel in distress".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hard to Put Down Do not start this book just before going to bed; it is very hard to put down. The Winner is well written, suspenseful but never gory and very imaginative. I enjoyed it so much when I finished it, I bought all of Mr. Baldacci books.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Winner - David Baldacci I had been wanting to read this book since the review done in Cosmopolitan a few years back. It did not let me down in the twists and turns. I found the book compelling and I couldn't put it down. Rags to riches and how the people handle the fortune is always an intriging recipe. The descriptions were, I thought, well done and it was easy to envision the characters. All in all I would like to read more of Mr. Baldacci's writings if they are as good as this.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's good, not great I read this book after devouring his other, "the Simple Truth" (awesome). The Winner's first third is very interesting and the character development is full. The following two-thirds lacked substance. Of course a villian can be as treacherous and capable as anything when the author resorts to crediting the villian as a master-of-disguise. The book is enjoyable, but I think the disguise-master villian was a cop-out. How realistic can that be?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Winner One of the best books I have ever read. First time I've read a Baldacci book. I'm going to read the rest.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the most exciting Baldacci book. A vicious chilling story how people will do anything to win a lottery if you know how to break the system. If you can find the unabridged audio book you'll get the whole story that will keep your interest tape by tape. The reader is good at his job. I think this is the most exciting of Baldacci's books.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than an action movie This book by Baladcci was one of the best books i've read in my entire life. The excitement of trying to figure out what was going on, LuAnn is a very intelligent lady. I think this book should be a Bestseller!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Winner is a Winner I drove to Florida listening to the Unabridged audio version and found myself driving further each day just to get more of the book done. It's an amazing thriller and keeps your attention throughout.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from D.Sibley Everyone wants to be a winner, and lotteries are their own addition. In Luann we find a strong character who resists involvement in a scheme she knows is wrong, but in the end she shows such strength we can't help but support her. Baldacci is right on the money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Baldacci's Best A slow start was quickly overcome by an intriguing plot and fascinating characters. The evil working of one man's mind driven toward power, with disregard to the pawns it takes to achieve such a task makes the reader pause and think...what would you do for the same? Truly a fine work by a brilliant author. This is the best of his I have read yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mind-blowing Thriller! By far the most explosive thriller novel I have read. Highly intelligent and all consuming. It's a 'Winner' in my collection!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Winner For LuAnn Tyler, twenty-year-old single mom, all the doors to success seemed closed. But all that changed when she was drawn into a world of high-stakes finance - millions upon millions of dollars - and the clutches of a brilliant financial mastermind, whose unprecedented abilities of disguise and murderous intent alter her world with the manipulation of the national lottery. It's an international game of power and intellect, starring one determined young woman and the master of deception, whose promise of unlimited wealth comes at a very high price. Amazing. Compares to Robert Ludlum, Daniel Silva and Clive Cussler.
