With Aunt Augusta, a veteran of Europe's hotel bedrooms, dull, suburban Henry travels her way through Brighton, Paris, Istanbul, Paraguay and finds himself in a shiftless, twilight society: mixing with hippies, war criminals, CIA men; smoking pot, breaking all currency regulations and eventually coming alive. Greene not only gives us intoxicating entertainment but also confronts us with some of the most perplexing human dilemmas.

From Our Editors

Henry Pulling, a retired bank manager, is, apparently, at his mother's funeral when he meets his 70-year-old aunt for the first time. She persuades him to abandon his life and travel with her. From Brighton, Paris, Istanbul, Paraguay, Aunt Augusta and Henry run the rounds of shiftless, twilight society. They mix with an assortment of people, from hippies to war criminals, engaging in crazy exploits that oppose the dull suburban life from which they fled in every form and fashion. Travels with My Aunt is an entertaining pilgrimage through the wild underside of society wherein Graham Greene exposes some of the most perplexing human dilemmas.
