Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic! This series is by far my most beloved novels. I love the way Richelle Mead brings the characters alive and how she intensifies the relationship between Rose and Dimitri with every novel. Rose's friendship with Lissa is inspiring and even thought it is about vampires (not really though) the novels are very relatable

Rated 3 out of 5 by from An alright read. The outline of the book is pretty cool; but I'd have to say that I'm not a huge fan of the way Richelle Mead writes. I found it almost confusing, at times. However, I am intrigued to find out what happends with Rose. And therefore I will be picking up sequel. (When it's on sale!)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It wasn't your typical vampire love story. This was a pretty good book. The two main characters are best friends and both females. They have a secret that is slowly slipping through the cracks and ending up in right in the middle of high school gossip. Their lives are at stake. One of the best friends is half human half vampire and it is her duty as a guardian to protect her vampire best friend for life. Read the interesting events that intertwine in their little vampire academy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great books for yet another vampire series, definetly worth the read! I absolutely loved this series!! I didnt even start reading it until two months ago because I was tired of all the vampire books and wanted to give them a rest. I'd pick it up and read the first page or so but I always ended up putting it back, I just never thought it would be that good. But after I kept hearing how amazing these books were and since people kept recommending them to me I finally decided to read them. I was not disappointed!! The vampires aren't even exactly the same as other books, there are different types (Moroi, Strigoi and Dhampire), which made things interesting for me. I found myself wondering what took me so long? I read all six books in just under two weeks! Unlike some other books I've read (where somewhere along the line it looks like the author got lazy or just didnt put much effort into one of the books) this series- the characters and storyline- just kept getting better and more interesting. I recommend these books to just about anyone, even those getting tired of the vampire scene. Mead is a Really Great author! I'm buying the entire series. I'd say more but I'm afraid I might give something away =)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great start to the series I’m glad that one of the ladies in my accounting class recommended this book series to me. I would always pick it up in the store but then I would put it back mostly because of the cover. To me the model looks like Angelina Jolie and I have a HUGE hate on that woman. But once I got over the fact that the model looks like her and the lady that suggested that I would like the series if I like House of Night Series and boy was she right. Rose is someone I think I would be friends with. She puts up with no bullshit from anyone and will hand out a big can of whoop ass if needed. There is something about Lissa that I don’t care for. I can’t really put my finger on it but she isn’t one of my favourites. Maybe it’s her race or Moroi’s that I dislike. They seem so helpless – they are freaking vampires I think they should be able to hold their own. There are a lot of hot guys in this novel so there should be at least one guy that every girl would like. I’m partial to Dimitri. I think that VA it a perfect starting point for the series as we learn some background information about the characters, the school and how the Dhampir/Moroi system works. Richelle did an excellent job of keeping the real villain under wraps. I totally didn’t see it coming. If you love the House of Night Series I can guarantee that you will like this one way more! I sure did and I’m glad I got over my issues with the cover. I should remember to never judge a book by its cover. Please visit www.vampsweresandcassay.blogspot.com

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crazy good!! I loved this book. I mean, mystery, magic, young love (or old depending) and vampires thirsty for vengeance...and blood, what's not to love. Richelle Mead is an awesome writer! I just discovered the books now and i'm hooked. She's was instantly added to my list of top five favourite writers after i read the first book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW! Loving the start to this series. "Absorbing..." , "Truly engaging" and "Unique and mesmerizing..." from the back cover describe this new series perfectly. Richelle Mead does a wonderful job in writing about Rose and Lissa. I was throughly entertained. This book is rich with a strong story line and characters that leaves the reader wanting more. I have already bought the rest of the books in this series to read. I won't go into to much more detail regarding the story line as Teachy's Review explains it all very well. Highly Recommended!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really Good I was amazed at how different all vampire books could be from one another, but it still amazes me. This book was a great read and doesn't want to let you put it down, This book is about a girl named Rose who is a Damphir, which is a half human half vampire, who is best friends with a moroi, which is a full vampire, Lissa. After escaping from St. Vladimir Academy together from fears of an unknown threat, they are alone together wondering from state to state. But eventually they get caught by gaurdians sought out to bring back Lissa to somewhere safe, for strigoi, vampires who kill other vampires, are always on the hunt. Now they must both reintegrate back into school life after being gone so long, but has the unknown threat dissapeared for good? Many disturbing things keep happening to Lissa, but their is no explanation of who or what is doing this to her..... A really good read, and as you keep reading they keep getting better!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasantly surprised I picked up this book to read with low hopes. It just didn't look that interesting. Now I know for sure that you can never judge a book by its cover. This book was amazing and i couln't put it down... I keep losing my money on the sequels... I sat down and read about the adventures of Rose Hathaway, Lissa Dragomir and others in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. Rose and Lissa are best friends and mentally connected. They are also on the run. Rose can tell through her mental connection with Lissa that Lissa is thouroughly depressed and decides that they need to leave St. Vladamir's academy, a school that they have both attended forever. As vampires in the human world, things become hard for Rose and Lissa. Lissa is a moroi and needs blood to survive. Rose is a dhamphir and can give Lissa that blood but not as often as Lissa needs. Rose is Lissa's protecter and must protect her at all costs from the third kind of vampire; the undead strigoi. Rose and Lissa are caught and brought back to the school after being on the run for two years. You get to see the life of Rose Hathaway as she trains to become Lissa's guardian, fight strigoi, and try to figure out her compilcated love life. If you don't think this looks like a good book, try it anyways... you'd be surpised... I was. If you do think this sounds good, then you are 100% right and it is defiantly worth the read. I went to Chapters earlier tonight to pick up the third book, and i didn't put it down for hours. So overall, this book is 100% and more worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE IT This book was amazing! It's an interesting take on vampires, mixing in some Russian influences into the book. I love how tough and strong a character Rose is. She is totally loyal to Lisa and not afraid to do whatever it takes to defend her from the strigoi. I enjoyed how Rose and Dimitris relationship develops over the course of the book. They are so great together. I also like Christian and Lisa's relationship. One of the best Vampire books i have read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutly amazing, no disappointment! This book was amazing right from the start I was hooked the book picks up fast, it isn't one of those slow starters it gets right into the story. You will fall in love with the characters right away like Dimitri and Rose. Rose is the kind of girl who is strong and independant and she makes you laugh. DImitri is the tall dark and handsome like a "god" as they say. You won't be able to wait for the next book so I recommend buying the box set. A truly fantastic series.

Read from the Book

I felt her fear before I heard her screams. Her nightmare pulsed into me, shaking me out of my own dream, which had had something to do with a beach and Orlando Bloom rubbing suntan oil on me. Images–hers, not mine–tumbled through my mind: fire and blood, the smell of smoke, the twisted metal of a car. The pictures wrapped around me, suffocating me, until some rational part of my brain reminded me that this wasn''t my dream. I woke up, strands of long, dark hair sticking to my forehead. Lissa lay in her bed, thrashing and screaming. I bolted out of mine, quickly crossing the few feet that separated us. "Liss," I said, shaking her. "Liss, wake up." Her screams dropped off, replaced by soft whimpers. "Andre," she moaned. "Oh God." I helped her sit up. "Liss, you aren''t there anymore. Wake up." After a few moments, her eyes fluttered open, and in the dim lighting, I could see a flicker of consciousness start to take over. Her frantic breathing slowed, and she leaned into me, resting her head against my shoulder. I put an arm around her and ran a hand over her hair. "It''s okay," I told her gently. "Everything''s okay." "I had that dream." "Yeah. I know." We sat like that for several minutes, not saying anything else. When I felt her emotions calm down, I leaned over to the nightstand between our beds and turned on the lamp. It glowed dimly, but neither of us really needed much to see by. Attracted by the light, our housemate''s cat Oscar leapt up into the open window.
