by Kelley Armstrong

Random House Of Canada | August 19, 2014 | Hardcover

Visions: The Cainsville Series is rated 5 out of 5 by 5.
In the second book in bestselling author Kelley Armstrong''s exciting new Cainsville series, Olivia''s newly discovered power to read omens leads to the discovery of a gruesome crime with troubling connections to her hometown.
Omens, the first installment in Kelley Armstrong''s Cainsville series, introduced Olivia Taylor-Jones, daughter of notorious serial killers, and Gabriel Walsh, the self-serving, morally ambiguous lawyer who became her unlikely ally. Together, they chased down a devious killer and partially cleared her parents of their horrifying crimes.
Their success, however, is short lived. While Olivia takes refuge in the old, secluded town of Cainsville, Gabriel''s past mistakes come to light, creating a rift between them just when she needs his help the most.
Olivia finds a dead woman in her car, dressed to look like her, but the body vanishes before anyone else sees it. Olivia''s certain it''s another omen, a sign of impending danger. But then she learns that a troubled young woman with a connection to Cainsville went missing just days earlier--the same woman Olivia found dead in her car. Someone has gone to great lengths to kill and leave this young woman as a warning. But why? And what role has Olivia''s new home played in this disturbing murder?
Olivia''s effort to uncover the truth places her in the crosshairs of old and powerful forces, forces that have their own agenda, and closely guarded secrets they don''t want revealed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must Read! Visions is an action-romance-comedy-thrilling-adventurous-scandalous-give you shivers kind of read. After Omens I could not wait for this book to come out and I was definitely impressed. It has everything I love in reading all wrapped into one. I can't wait for the next book in the series. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved this book and the series The only thing I don't like about this series is that it is a year between each of the books. Every time I finish a book I immediately want to pick up the next. Fun characters and interesting storyline. Couldn't put it down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Trust Your Visions! It felt like forever waiting for my copy of Visions to arrive and it finally did on publication day. Nonetheless I began reading and realized how much I missed Cainsville because, if you read Omens, and own the Canadian edition, you may very well know what the cover means or could lead to. At least to some questions that still need answering. My expectation of the actual visions for one thing that main character Olivia Taylor-Jones experiences (though in Omens I referred to as Eden Larsen, daughter of convicted serial killers Todd and Pamela Larsen) was something different and not what I expected. They were in fact stronger than I thought and left some horrific images for Olivia that she herself is wondering, why is she able to read these omens? If you haven?t read Omens, don?t hesitate. There is not only enough backstory to glide you over that isn?t very spoiler material but I?ve brought friends and family into Kelley?s books with Visions. And being that this is the second book in a series, they would never be able to tell and were just as gripped from either the first page, or at the start of a middle chapter. In Omens, Olivia?s world crashes down when she finds out she is the daughter of convicted serial killers which then leads her off to escape Chicago, Illinois, and holds refuge in Cainsville. Her birth parent?s previous lawyer, Gabriel Walsh, is there to help sort out once again the crimes of Todd and Pamela Larsen. In Omens, we do see Pamela a lot and I enjoyed that. In Visions however, I wanted to also see Todd. I got neither. I clearly remember seeing Pamela in one scene but that was it. No Todd and although it was something I was expecting, I?m glad to see that surprise of his presence is once again absent; at least in this book. The worst part of this book? It was ending. I read the first 50 pages or so on the first day and I?m not sure if my ability as a slow reader rapidly increased or if the story itself for me was anxiously waiting to be read. Of all the Kelley books I have read, this being my sixth, I have never felt so excited to read this book and also fall deeply into the lives of the citizens of Cainsville. I have still yet to read the rest of the Otherworld series (read the first three which keep getting better!) but as I finished the last odd fifty pages or so of Visions, I kept dreading it was ending. But it didn?t entirely end just yet as there are more books expected to come, since the main story of Cainsville is not over yet. I predict these visions will continue in the third Cainsville novel, Deceptions, that isn?t due until August 2015.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such a spectacular series, you won't regret it! I've been waiting it seems like a year for this sequel to come out but it's really only been six months. How is that possible, huh? I guess I was totally excited to read it and it felt like time slowed down to a snail's pace, lol. I loved Kelley Armstrong's first book, "Omens", read my review here. I am so thrilled to be able to review a Kelley Armstrong book once again. "Visions", which comes out on August 19th is, once again, a mystery with paranormal twists. It's based in a little town called Cainsville where the central character Olivia Taylor-Jones lives. Olivia is a twenty-four year old woman who just found out (in the last book) that she was adopted and her real parents are notorious serial killers, Patricia and Todd Larson. Until this revelation in the last book, Olivia's life was idyllic. She was raised with a wealthy, sophisticated Chicago family who gave her an ivy league education. She had a fianc? who, himself, was a prominent and wealthy businessman on his way to becoming a senator. All of this crumbled the night reporters showed up on her mother's doorstep, hounding Olivia for information and how she felt about her birth parents. Olivia ran and ended up in Cainsville, a strange little town with interesting people that seemed inordinately protective of her and interested in her future. "Visions" continues directly from the previous book "Omens". Olivia, still teaming up with her pit-bull lawyer, Gabrial Walsh, a sometimes morally wayward man with an unusual past of his own, continue to delve into the case of her parents' horrifying crimes. The pair are looking to prove the Larsons innocent of all wrong doing but there are sinister forces trying to actively prevent Olivia and Gabrial from succeeding. Visions opens with Olivia stopping by her old mansion where she used to reside with her wealthy mother. Olivia is there to pick up a few things that she was unable to take with her when she left her old life so abruptly, on the run from the press. As she collects her laptop and some extra clothes she notices someone is sitting in her car! She surmises it's just another nosy and pushy reporter and goes to give them a piece of her mind. When she flings the car door open a dead body dressed up to resemble Olivia falls out. Is Olivia seeing a vision, an omen like she had started experiencing in the last few months or is there truly a dead body leaning out of her car? She calls Gabriel immediately as she runs into the house, securing the alarm and the deadbolt. So starts the mystery of the dead body. In this continuation of a great series that adds a soup?on of the paranormal to a spectacular mystery series, we follow Olivia and Gabriel on a meandering path as they try to find out why there is a dead body and what it has to do with Olivia. Through the mystery we learn huge amounts about our main characters, Olivia and Gabriel. Olivia's paranormal gifts are also explained, giving the reader a little more clarity about what might be going on in Cainsville. This was an excellent second book in an ongoing series. I found myself gobbling up the pages in huge chunks, staying up well past my bedtime unable to put the book down. Interestingly, Kelley Armstrong handles the paranormal aspect of this book expertly and doesn't force the reader into a head space that is unbelieving. I found myself actually considering the unusual possibilities of paranormal happenings as I was engrossed in the pages of this book. This is a spectacular summer read. It expertly combines mystery, intrigue, romance and paranormal events all in one very enjoyable book. My one problem is that I'm going to, once again, wait months to read another Kelley Armstrong Cainsville novel. Write fast Kelly, please write FAST!
