Wheat Belly

by William Davis

HarperCollins Publishers Ltd | May 11, 2012 | Trade Paperback

Wheat Belly is rated 3 out of 5 by 4.

Wheat Belly is a provocative look at how eliminating wheat-even so-called healthy whole grain wheat-from our diets is the key to permanent weight loss and can offer relief from a broad spectrum of health and digestive problems.

Drawing on decades of clinical studies and the extraordinary results he has observed after putting thousands of his patients on wheat-free regimens, Dr. William Davis makes a compelling case against this ubiquitous ingredient. A wheat-free diet has been associated with significant benefits, including the following:

  • Weight loss of twenty, thirty, even fifty pounds in the first few months
  • Alleviation of metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes
  • Recovery from intestinal woes, like ulcerative colitis and celiac disease
  • Marked improvement in overall cholesterol and LDL counts
  • Improvement in bone density and reversal of osteoporosis
  • Cessation of skin conditions from psoriasis to oral ulcers and hair loss
  • Reduction of inflammation and rheumatoid arthritis pain

Readable, thought-provoking and carefully researched, Wheat Belly offers a new and vitally important perspective on the most critical health concerns of our time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of Money This book is garbage. Going Gluten free if your not celiac or gluten sensitive has yet to be proven to have any of the benefits this book or Grain Brain claim. It is more likely people feel better or lose weight because they are watching what their eating and how much overall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Changed my life. Wheat Belly has changed my life. I do not diet anymore. I do however monitor the unhealthy foods I put into my body and have not touched wheat in over eight months. After reading chapter one I was already convinced. I feel less mood swings, I am a happier being for real!! I do not feel in a fog or like I need to fight the world all the time. I did have to quit sugar as well as I am addicted to it and found every dessert chocolate and candy that did not have wheat in it and ate it. The extra added benefit for me is that I have lost 20 pounds and do not struggle to keep it off. I like that William Davis is an MD and practices what he preaches.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A bit of an extreme POV Certainly raises some valid points about genetically modified foot, and many people do feel better when cutting back on grains. However, it feels like every 2nd line of this book is overly dramatic about the effect wheat has on health. While it may even be true, the manner in which it is presented is overkill. The recipes at the back sound good though and I'm going to try them. You could probably learn all you really need to know from just purchasing the cookbook and reading the beginning of that.

Rated out of 5 by from I am on day 3/40 of a test with this book. I can tell that so far I am not hungry. I am learning that wheat is hidden in everything. I am noticing a reduction in fluid retention. I'm also watching calories as I have some weight to lose and it's easier because I'm not hungry at all. I have a few issues I'm hoping this will resolve.
