Rated 1 out of 5 by from When Breastfeeding Is Not an Option:A Reassuring G Very dissapointing. Based entirely on misinformation as opposed to scientific research. Has she never heard of the world health organization? Throughout her book she implys that bottel feeding is as option that is as good as breastfeeding, and that it is OK to choose bottlefeeding for reasons of lifestyle over breastfeeding which has been PROVEN beyond the shadow of a doubt to be best for her child. As a health proffessional it is my opinion people should not become parents if their lifstyles and choices come before their children's saftey and wellbeing.I would challange the author to find one pediatric association, child health authority or research study (or formula company for that matter)which does not conclude that breastfeeding is the best thing for every child and that formula is a poor substitute. I was sad to see the author so obviously confused by years of formula marketing stratagies. For the women who, for varied resons, are unable to breastfeed guilt should not enter into the equation if they tried their best, sought help from lactation consultants etc. The only ones who have any reason to feel guilty are those who gave up or worse never tried, because they felt that breastfeeding would interupt their lifestyle to much. Kids come first!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not supportive and not reassuring! I thought this book would be about how to bottlefeed in a loving and warm way(as opposed to propping bottles and letting the baby attach to objects, not people.) what it is, is not what its title implies. this author clearly has issues about her decision to bottlefeed. her writing implies a desperation to convince people (but most of all herself) that bottlefeeding is in fact the best way to feed a baby. interesting concept, given that all medical authorities (which the author is not) and even the formula companies say that breastfeeding is best! This book is not about why its ok to bottle feed, or even how to! its about hatred and anger. if i were a mother who could not breastfeed, for whatever reason, i think this book would make me cry. i might have been seeking reassurance and support, but i would have found something ugly and vicious. as a mother looking for support, believe me, chapters about why la leche league is a cult would not be information that i would be looking for. this author is off base with regard to fulfilling the promise of the title of the book. my opinion is that the title of this book would more appropriately be "when you are angry about your decision to bottle feed and need someone else to validate your hateful, spiteful feelings. a nasty guide for parents who think bottlefeeding is a political issue.
