Reviews

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing. I bought this book based on other decent reviews, and my husband was quite excited about it because it was "written by an actual MD". But I was greatly disappointed. Apart from the 2 sentences per chapter about how you and your baby are developing, the rest of each chapter is a rambling collection of random facts in no particular order or logic. Also, (as others have mentioned), much of the information is quite alarming and mentions many extremely rare disorders and complications (for example, which occur in fewer than 1 in 10,000 cases), but makes no mention of how to deal with very common complaints, such as hip pain. Overall, I think there are much better pregnancy books out there, so if you are only planning on purchasing one or two, definitely give this one a pass.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I do not recommend Only one thing I liked about this book: week by week development of mother and baby. Otherwise I found the book alarming and somewhat depressing to read as each weekly chapter was filled with all the potential diseases and problems your baby could have. I also discovered that much of their advice wasn't necessarily based on scientific research. (ie. caffeine, lying on back, sushi, vitamins) If you're going to get this book, I recommend balancing it with The Panic Free Pregnancy by Dr. Michael S. Broder. Things I would change: 1. put pregnancy nutrition in a chapter on their own at the beginning instead of scattered throughout. 2. change title to Your Pregnancy: Everything That Could Go Wrong.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Concise Reference Book I bought this book yesterday, and so far, it seems to be a fairly good book to start with. It's very "factual" (read: if you're looking for something cozy/comfy that might make you feel better emotionally, you might want to find something else to supplement your library - this is very straight-forward, easy to read, but not all that warm and fuzzy). A couple of comments that maybe aren't super positives are: 1) It was written for the USA, so a lot of the really good information about who you can contact to find out more about different kinds of healthcare, etc. and some of the detailed explanations about how the healthcare system works for you, don't apply. 2) The Dad Tips were a bit of a disappointment - I was trying to get my husband to read it with me (he's still very new to this whole idea), and he was rather insulted by the tone of the Dad Tips. They seemed to have a definite slant toward men being kind of dumb, clueless, and lazy. After excitedly flipping through looking for the info geared toward "Dad", he put the book down, remarked that it was talking to him like he was an idiot, and then told me he was going to find his "own book".. Not exactly what I was looking for! But a nice reference otherwise for all things health-related.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from it's ok i am only at week 10, but so far this book is ok. as someone else mentioned in a previous review, it is a little alarmist at times. it also seems to set up worst case scenarios (if you do x then y will happen; if you don't do x then y will happen). this might be helpful for some people, but i found it a little dark and gloomy. much prefer 'what to expect when you're expecting'.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential for a new mother-to-be I bought this book along with What to Expect When You Are Expecting. The format for the latter is much more general, kind of like a 'frequently asked questions' type of thing. This book however was much more precise. I really appreciated having my pregnancy split up week by week and I was often awestruck at how exact the book was when describing the different symptoms that I was feeling each week. The book takes the time to describe what is happening with the baby as well. I would highly recommend Your Pregnancy Week by Week and would even say that if you have to choose between this book and the more popular What to Expect When You Are Expecting, go with Your Pregnancy Week by Week! You won't be disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots of great advice, fabulous pictures of baby as they develop! What I loved most about this book was the drawings of the baby as they develop in the womb. The information was helpful and reassuring, and what issues and concerns might be on your might during each week. Easy and enjoyable to read!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easily the Best! I had lots of pregnancy books given to me and this one was by far the best. I looked forward to flipping to the next week as my pregnancy progressed. I loved the way that it was broken up. It is easy to understand and covers everything!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Book I find this book to be extremely helpful and clear. The week by week info on how your little bean is growing and the changes you keep you up to date and wanting to read the next week.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Your questions answered! This is more of a guide than a reference book - it will guide you throughout each week of your pregnancy - letting you know what you need to know at the right time. I found alot of the other books overwhelming with their information - they gave me too much to worry about! This book let me know what was going on in my body - and what was happening to my baby at the same time. I found it very reassuring, and easy to fit in one small chapter a week.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best book for pregnant women This book was the best book I read while I was pregnant. I feel like I read them all and this one was the most straightforward and was easy to pick up & put down. I would recommend it to anyone who was pregnant.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My Friend and Doctor All In One I am currently pregnant with our first child and I absolutely LOVE this book. It covers all of the topics that I have questions about while also providing details about what is happening with you and the baby week by week. Every weekend I sit down and read about the upcoming week so as the days pass I know what is happening to my changing body and the little being that is developing inside of me. This is a magical time and I think this is the best book for first time moms who want an easy explanation of what is happening throughout their pregnancy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good book I found this book to be very helpful and a great compliment to the what to expect when your expecting. I found having the two books to be very helpful. The week by week, kept me engaged on what was happening each week to me and the baby. I would recommend that you purchase both books.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Recommended The only good thing about this book was the week-by-week pictures of the baby's development. I found it very alarmist rather than comforting, and hard to follow, since there was no real order to the subjects in the book. There was also misleading information about things like episiotomies and eating/drinking during labour, amongst other things.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent resource This book is an excellent resource for an first time expecting mom. It is well layed out, and includes a Dad tip in each week to keep him involved. It was nice not being overwhelmed with info and be able to just read what was happening in my body at the exact moment. I recommed this book to every pregnant Mom I know!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from easy to read, provided good details The best pregnancy book compare to all others I have read. No negative advice or method, it's all very helpful and explain very clear week by week. Many other books have 500 pages with all the texts but the information is useless or try to scare you. I also read the baby first year week by week and I highly recommend those books especially for new parents.
