Being an ardent fan of the Anne of Green Gables novels I was incredibly excited when I discovered movies accompanied the book. Though I was a little girl when I first saw them, the films stuck with me. I recently re-read the series and decided to buy the films. They're a great companion to the books, if not an entirely accurate homage. They pick out vital parts and really bring the world of Avonlea to life. Megan Follows did a great job, Jonathan Crombie did not dishonour Gilbert (the literary love of my young life). The only real weakness is 'The Continuing Story' as it does not at all relate to the books. As a stand alone tv movie it is average. Overall it was a great purchase for my DVD collection and certainly a fun memory to relive.

I have always loved these movies, and believe it or not, they were my introduction to the novels. Megan Follows is amazing as Anne, capturing all of the vitality and innocence that Anne embodies (I couldn't believe it when I found out that she was 17 when she made the first one!). Johnathan Crombie is also great at Gilbert Blythe's character. I love how the same actors were retained for all three movies, it makes it really feel like they're lives are moving in real-time. My only bone to pick is that The Continuing Story is a complete departure from the novels. But even that can be overcome if one simply ignores the "Green Gables" factor, as the story is well done. These are great companions to the novels and one of the most faithful renditions of any classic novel. BRAVO!!! Apparently there is a fourth one coming out this year (2009) that is set in WWII and has Anne looking back at her life and dealing with Gilbert and her sons heading off to war. The novel of the movie is out and I can't wait to read it and see the movie.

The three movies in this set are the only Anne of Green Gables movies that I can watch! Nothing can compare to how Megan Follows portrays Anne and Gilbert is fantastic! I also like how there is an overlap in characters between this and Road to Avonlea...it makes it even more real!

Megan Follows as Anne Shirley is the only one that works for me. Megan really captured the heart and soul of Anne and made her following that much more poignant. This treasured story comes to life via Kevin Sullivan and is exquisite, a can't miss for anyone who treasures being Canadian.

Well, this is one cherished masterpiece of Canadian storytelling and then Canadian Television. I can remember when it first appeared on T.V., everyone I new was watching this, yes even the guys. I fell in love with the character Anne, which made me want to read the books after watching the show. Megan Follows, played the Anne character to a tee. Colleen Durhurst played Mirilla with charm and pinache. Every Canadian who has not seen this should see how this little red haired girl change the face of a small Village of Green Gables upside down.
