The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe

Starring: Tilda Swinton, Jim Broadbent
Director: Andrew Adamson

Buena Vista Home Entertainment | April 4, 2006 | DVD

Director Andrew Adamson gives a new dimension to C.S. Lewis's enchanting story with this long-awaited Disney adaptation. As the story begins, Mrs. Pevensie--in order to keep her children safe during World War II--sends Lucy (Georgie Henley), Edmond (Skandar Keynes), Susan (Anna Popplewell), and Peter (William Moseley) off to stay at a professor's country estate. Away from London and under the care of a strict housekeeper, they are instructed to stick to themselves and stay out of trouble. But when an innocent game of hide-and-seek leads young Lucy to a spare room containing a large wardrobe, she discovers something that will change their lives forever.

Inside the wardrobe there is a world frosted with ice and filled with magical beings. Known as Narnia, the land is stuck in eternal winter at the hands of the cruel White Witch, played with great force by the pale, strong-featured Tilda Swinton. When she steps back into reality, Lucy struggles to convince her skeptical siblings of the things she's seen. After much disbelief, the others finally enter the world as well, learning that the creatures of Narnia have long been waiting for humans like themselves to appear and break the witch's spell. But in order to be of any help to the lovable talking beavers, fawns, foxes, and centaurs that they meet, the four will have to face betrayal by one of their own as Edmond cracks under the witch's tempting offer of unlimited Turkish Delights. Under the leadership of the great lion Aslan (voice of Liam Neeson), can Lucy, Edmond, Susan, and the oldest, Peter, prove themselves heroes in the ultimate battle of good vs. evil? High-budget special effects, impressive performances by the film's young newcomers, and beautiful set design move this film far beyond previous television adaptations.

They took a great book and made it into a wonderful movie. As more of a 'kids' movie its not as action/battle packed as I would have preferred, but its amazing nevertheless. Great music, the actors are pretty impressive, and Aslan just makes you want to squeeze him :)
Highly recommend to fans of the books. Also recommend you read the books too!

Definitely a classic tale written which attempted to aim high and succeeded with a wonderful movie too! This was a simple story that was told with such a magical feel to it. A great step into the world of fantasy for a few hours! After seeing the movie, I am looking forward to watching The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe is a great movie to get children or people of all ages interesting in reading the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. This movie is exciting and involves a fantasy world, which four orphan children stumble upon one day, and are declared the kings and queens of Narnia. There are talking animals, mythic animals, a battle, and an evil witch. I highly recommend this movie to children, especially if you want to build their interest for reading.

This movie is a must see for all who have read the series of books! Keeping as true to form as possible, without taking too many "literary liberties." Cinematography....nothing shy of breathtaking! A feast of a movie, which will leave you sated in every aspect! The "Ice Queen" is a character you will develop no small amount of loathing for! A stunning performance, clearly meriting profound accolades! Buy \ rent this movie, sit down with the family, and let the magic transpire, and carry you away to Narnia!

    Brilliant Movie

This is by far the best film adaptation of this brilliant book. My school went to see this movie and all of them from grade 4-8 fell in love with this movie. My grade five class read the book as a class novel set and they said that it was as close to the movie as any movie can get. Now, I can't wait to purchase this.

As an avid book reader I was not disapointed with this film. I found that for the most part it followed the book swimmingly and didn't destroys it like other movies have. None the less both the movie and the books are great for anyone at any age. It is one of those few timeless classics.

This was an amazing movie. I saw it with my friends and when we left the theatre it was unaminous, and still is, this is one of the best movies that we have seen this year. They stuck to the book, used amazing graphics and created moments of suspense and comedy. They did C.S Lewis credit. We can only hope that they'll do all seven books, THAT would be awesome.

Great movie. THe fight scene was well thought out and planned. The Christian ties are there, just not obvious, but its a great movie for kids and adults. Great buy for anyone. I strongly reccomend Widescreen over full screen though (especially for the fight scene, more, you see more).

P.S. People should start using the review feature on Chapters.ca!
